Morning!!! As we head into a new calendar year, this is "January, North End Road". Brian Hagger. Thackeray Gallery 1974. Photo from the exhibition catalogue.
It was requested, so I am incredibly excited to announce that there will be a Norwich exhibition of my fathers work, mid-September 2024. Please note there will not be a catalogue. That was something incredibly special, created by Trent Art.
Nope can't wait been wanting to share this for months. One of my personal favourites from our private collection. There is too much to say for a twitter allowance! Brian Hagger. Absolutely beautiful a simple oil on paper.
So here it is, one I kept under wraps until the catalogue came out. This is the absolute stunner " Cookies" - Brian Hagger (NFS). It has been framed and ready for the launch of the retrospective on the 28th of September !
Another Norwich one today. The Lord Raglan ( not the title of the painting). Now a private house. It was a family joke that almost every pub/shop Dad painted either closed shortly after or changed it's decor. Sold to a private collector. Brian Hagger.
Today, I dropped my phone on concrete, following cutting a hedge. So if I suddenly disappear, you know why. It's not a happy phone.
Anyway, one of the favourites from this exhibition.

I'm taking a few days' break from social media. All is well, just a lot going on. I'll respond with the photos promised if I can find them at the weekend.
Anyway, here is the magnificent "Wash Day " Brian Hagger
"Waterford Road" 1971 Brian Hagger. I am resharing this one today as I intake a breath each time it turns up in my feed. The palette is so muted, the composition draws you in, so much to study.
Somewhere in the world the painting of " The Golden Fish Bar" hopefully still exists. I wonder how many of his works are hidden away in attics or sheds. There were around 351 in total. Brian Hagger
One of my many reasons for this adventure into my fathers world was to track down the paintings and source images. So far 3 have resurfaced . There were around 361. We know the whereabouts of 70 odd. Please remember early to mid 60's the were signed with an " H" -Brian Hagger
Let's roll out the " Adam and Eve" again. It has gone to its new home. That crackling fire in the top bar is a happy warming memory from my time working there in the late 80's early 90's. Brian Hagger
The red in this piece draws the eye instantly , then allowing the viewer to study the smaller details. The two women talking is a beautiful touch of animation in an otherwise still scene.
Brian Hagger
This beauty has been mentioned in many conversations I have had.
It is a portfolio piece and is in our private collection. Brian Hagger
It's not in the retrospective.
Following the fact that all the paintings we had for sale at the Retrospective sold before the opening of the exhibition. We made the decision to place " Wash Day" up for sale. "Suffolk Ales" is now also on the walls which is also up for sale Brian Hagger
My mother chose not to put into action the plans she had for father's work, always putting it off. My whole life, I had been prepared gently. Inheriting files and notes to carry out her wishes. They left me, Mick and our boys with a fascinating legacy. Brian Hagger
" Upholsterer " Brian Hagger
The little details of the red, white, and blue washing in the background is another wonderful perspective ploy to divert the eye, pulling the viewer further into the scenery of painting.
The little one " The Eagle" 1969. Is smaller and an A4 bit of paper. Gifted by my father to my grandfather. It was passed to me when he died in 2000. Photos never show the depth of his work. It really is a little beauty.
In the fiveish years, he completed 27(ish) Brighton paintings whilst he still painted London . The six years living in Yarmouth, he painted only 3. There were 16 Norwich paintings from 1986 and... this " Fish and Chips: Memories of the 60's" 1999. He died in 2006.
So the end of a busy week brings the final celebration. Today, I turn 50!
So, as followers know, this is mine, given to me by my parents many years ago. I miss them greatly, today, especially.
" Gasworks" Brian Hagger 🖤
' GT Tyres' Munster Road, London.
Absolute cracker of a piece, I would love to see this one first hand. It has a real ' Cookies ' feel about it. Flatter than his ' icing' works, stunning signage. The detail on the doors is just fantastic, I can smell the rubber.
Brian Hagger
So today my husband is 60!. He helped care for both my parents and they loved him dearly, as do I. This his painting from them. " The Basketmaker's Arm's" Brian Hagger
There are going to be a few deep sighs on this one as I am aware of a few people who were thinking about purchasing it. But the glorious " Adam and Eve" by Brian Hagger has SOLD !.
A much later work of my father's 1999 " Fish and Chips-Memories of the 60's" Brian Hagger. Painted in Norwich of Chelsea from notes he had made. He had not visited London for many years by this point. Bought by a private collector.

' Wash Day'
Brian Hagger.
I am quite excited to be travelling up to collect this from Trent Art Gallery in a couple of weeks' time for our exhibition in September.
When you have a whole day of house stuff planned ... yet you are stuck on the couch with two cats as it would be rude to move them ...post another classic Brian Hagger
My father loved markets where my parents did the majority of their shopping, usually choosing mid afternoon to get the reduced brusied avocados and peppers. This painting has it all.
Brian Hagger .
I dreamt of my mother again last night, I was telling her about the show. It was an easy conversation flowing back and forth between us 🙂. This one is sadly is not in the show but somewhere out in the big world. Brian Hagger
If that white stuff does here this morning and lays, I may pop down the hill to view the glorious "Adam and Eve." This image has become rather sentimental to me. I hope it is being enjoyed in its new home. Brian Hagger.
"An attempt to provide a personal response to my environment, using paint, line, tone, shapes and texture although not figurative, the intention is not photographic realism but producing an individual response by these means" Brian Hagger
The wonderful ' Wash Day'. Such beauty in a mundane scene, Fred on his bike, washing, a rather splendid gate with graffiti, stone and rendering and of course a chimney pot/s. All fascinating elements in such a simple yet complicated painting.
Brian Hagger
The manifesting of snow dud not work here yesterday, and neither will it today. But hey, it's a cold one, so another snow scene does not go a miss. Intresting fact this is an earlier painting ...he added the snow a couple of years later. Brian Hagger
So I am on another phone. All of my dad's work is on my old phone. It really made me realise the amount of research I have done in the last 17 months. Yes, I can download it and will, but right now, it's rather nice to go back to the beginning.
Brian Hagger
Saturday morning greetings. 1956 portfolio. Absolutely stunning autumnal street scene....! The people in this one set off the whole painting. Brian Hagger
Some of his works like "The Elm" , "Cookies " and this one seem in themselves poster like. The colours are slightly brighter , and the pallette knife strokes smoother. Brian Hagger
Fish and Chip Friday - a selection of some of the fishshop photo's by my late father Brian Hagger. I think we have Cromer, London and the last two are Norwich.
It's a very busy time of year for me being a professional gardener , so I am not about much, I am still checking in, though, when I can 🙂
Brian Hagger ' Summer Garden'
1975 " Coachmakers Arms Trafalgar Street" Brighton ,Brian Hagger. The industrial scene to the left , the small figure approaching the dishevelled pub everything about it pulls the viewer in.

Some who attended the private view met my wonderful partner of 26 years " once a punk always a punk"-Mick. He would also deny having a favoured Brian Hagger work..although he is pretty in love with the his one the " Basketmakers Arms". 😁
Glorious corners ...corner pubs , corner shops, street corners ...a reoccurring perspective of my father's art. The join of two visual aspects.
Good morning !

My post this morning disappeared yet again.
Strange as it mentioned a newspapers name and one that has disappeared before.
So here's 'Tower Curing works' Brian Hagger, Great Yarmouth. Taking another break for a bit whilst I gather my thoughts.
