Congratulations to Coach Troy Gunderson on winning the Butch Nash Award from the Minnesota Football Coaches Association. Troy has been coaching with the Thunderhawks for many years and is a big part of a successful program.

Congratulations to the Lightning Hockey Team on advancing to the Section Finals. The game will be held this Thursday at the Heritage Arena in Duluth with a 7pm start against Andover.

The 2025 Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame inductees. A well deserved award for all and encompassing a broad cross section of generations and sports. A common theme was the love for their sport and relationships built that have lasted lifetimes. Great athletes but greater people.

A reminder- the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame induction is at 11 am tomorrow at the Reif Center. Inductees are Brynn Joki Drexler, Erin Joki Green, Gaye Schroeder Francisco, Tuffy Hoard, Rachel Sackett Metelak and the 1975 boys hockey team. A $10 charge includes appetizers.

Congratulations to the Lightning on their quarterfinal win over the Northern Tier Stars in Section 7AA playoffs. Next up they will be hosting Elk River on Saturday at 6pm for a chance to advance to the section finals.

The Poenix and Johnson team advanced to the finals of the Boys Freestyle Sprint Race at the Section Meet at Giants Ridge. Up next are the Freestyle Pursuit races.

The Lightning had their Senior Night last Friday. There were a lot of proud parents and rightfully so. A great group of girls again this year. Playoffs start this Thursday at home with a 6pm start vs Northern Tier.

Senior night for the boys hockey team at the Duluth Marshall game last night. Thanks to the parents for all their sacrifices over the years in getting kids to practices and games. They should be proud of their players!

The Thunderhawk wrestlers performed well at the Skip Nalan Invitational. The tournament is the longest running wrestling tournament in Minnesota.

The Lightning Girls Hockey Team defeated Alexandria 2-0 last night. The game was played outdoors at the Miners Pavillion and great memories were had for each team.

The Thunderhawk Boys Swim Team won the Section True Team meet yesterday in a great team performance. On to the true team state tournament at the University of Minnesota next weekend.

At today’s pepfest Aryanna Daydodge was crowned homecoming queen. The event was great. Kudos to the student council and their advisor, Jinnea Zenzen.
