When I received a message from @RoutledgeSteve that a photographer had seen a wader with yellow legs at East Halton pit it seemed logical to conclude that it would be the Lesser Yellowlegs of two week previous; arrived to find only one wader there and it wasn't a yellowlegs

the most striking summer plumaged Baird's Sandpiper I have ever seen - better images at 21:10 last night than in the bright light of early morning -- the 44th species of wader for Alkborough and only 6th for Lincs

after 55 years birding I had no idea that male Cuckoos present females with nest material in courtship displays - learnt something new today after seeing this male drop down into the field and come up with this - the object of his attention a fine hepatic female as well

December 8th 2010 - watching this local Rough-leg sitting around then it set off and flew 400m (measured later on maps) and crashed into a reedbed and came out with a Water Rail - one of the most amazing raptor events I have ever seen - unbelievable eyesight

a somewhat uneventful Lincs seawatch required some back up info from BGuides but with no internet connection even that self punishment was lacking then suddenly about 09:30 a signal arrived and a somewhat unexpected message - could have been just across the Trent - maybe tomorrow

In spite of mentions in Forsman and Roger Clarke's monograph this is only the second dark-headed juvenile Marsh Harrier, small nape spot, that I have seen in 50 years and several 100 juvs; interested to hear if they are more numerous elsewhere - striving for better images

When I first started recording birds I saw on my paper round in Goxhill in 1969 I soon gave up putting down Willow Tits as they were just too common; the last survivor on my local patch has made it into 2021 but likely its last year - end or an era

Used the flip screen on the Canon R6 to allow me to put the camera and lens on the ground as close to the waters edge as possible to get a low level perspective and save the dodgy knee Canon R6, Canon 400 DO2 and 1.4x converter, 3200 ISO on a dull morning
