I've been working on this story for months. The wife of a longtime California politician scored millions of dollars in contracts w/Santa Clara County to write grants and a history book.
Probably the wildest story I've ever reported.

Just received from the organizers of the Khaled event:
“Zoom has threatened to cancel this webinar and silence Palestinian narratives. We expect SFSU/CSU to uphold our freedom of speech and academic freedom by providing an alternative venue to this open classroom.”
What came back was pretty fascinating. Top officials were trying to figure out how to craft a response to me. One official said to her colleagues "Don't want to say too much, or beg more questions." Another disputed her response saying SFDPH was barely doing CT at all.
In 2001, the Fine Arts Museum of SF flagged 10 paintings as possibly being looted Nazi art. But their website has no info about it - many other museums do - and the paintings have scant provenances when viewed online.

GOOD news in the journalism world---> I just got a text from

Thought this Santa Clara County budget meeting was going to be mundane...I was wrong!
New county jail estimated cost:
January - $390m
Today - $689m
In a text, County Executive Jeff Smith said cost jump is because of "delay and inflation of raw materials and building costs."
“We’ve got a situation in this country where transit construction costs are wildly out of control,” said Liccardo, who is currently running for District 16’s congressional seat. “We need to find better ways to build. And in the meantime, we have to build within our budget.”
😇This is why I continue to wake up every day hungry to do journalism😇: I just received the sweetest message regarding a story I did as a news intern for
