@ypreswoman Pte. Denham and Pte. Grimmer both lost their lives during the last week of October 1918. They almost got to see the Armistice. Almost. #LestWeForget

@Jimmyocx3 @hiddensouthport @meolscop1978 Thanks! We can safely conclude I think that the 'A Drummond' who is commemorated on the Ainsdale and Southport WMs is not Alex Drummond RGA/99302. In the meantime I'm reasonably certain that I've found our (Ainsdale) man: James Alan Drummond, RFA/4156.

@hiddensouthport @meolscop1978 As an aside: There's another A. Drummond buried at Bully-Grenay. @CWGC records show that he was the 19-year old son of a family from Gonville Rd., Bootle. So it is reasonable to assume that this is the 'A. Drummond' who is commemorated on the Bootle WM.

Still experimenting with the SO42P-based VLF-2-HF circuit that was shared here by Greg @SP3RNZ. LTSpice simulation shows that the absolute hFE value of the BJTs is not important. In the integrated circuit the BJTs would share the same wafer, and would (hence) be hFE-matched.

It was the first of two Victoria Crosses to be awarded to Captain Chavasse, the second posthumously. I paid Captain Chavasse a visit last summer. He's at peace in Brandhoek, not far from the Clearing Station where he sadly died of wounds sustained as a result of enemy shelling.
#OTD - 1917: Captain Noel Godfrey Chavasse, R.A.M.C., the second son of the Bishop of Liverpool, received his Victoria Cross at Buckingham Palace

@SommePhantom Interesting, thanks. I have multiple familial connections with the Regiment. Afaik not only the 'Pals' KLR battalions but also the 6th (L'pool Rifles), the 8th (L'pool Irish) and the 10th (L'pool Scottish) had their own cap badges, distinct from the The White Horse of Hanover.

William's story is documented on the @Liverpool_Pals website. The simple but strikingly poignant inscription on William's headstone reads: MY SON LAID DOWN HIS LIFE FOR OTHERS #LestWeForget #WW1 #FWW

@MMP1917 Here's the same badge on a headstone. The English words are South Africa's former national motto "Ex unitate vires". The Dutch phrasing is reflective of the motto of the Dutch Republic (which is still Belgium's national motto). (Pte. Webster is at peace at Nine Elms nr. Pop).

@dr_wendym_RN The New Zealand shilling would of course not have been exactly at parity with the British shilling in 1927, but the difference in value would not (I think) have been all that big in the years prior to the Great Depression.
