One last one: I like this shot because the members of the pep band are so excited, and ... also THERE'S A FREAKING PEP BAND AT A HS BBALL GAME, WHICH IS AWESOME.
Uyl: Dating back to the change in leadership (at MDHHS) on Friday, has seen a drastic change in communication between MHSAA and MDHHS. Better in past weeks than it's been in past three months.
With the lifting of outdoor capacity limits today by MDHHS and the gov's office, all MHSAA events — starting June 1 — will be able to be conducted at full capacity.
Think you can't play DI women's hoops unless you go to a big-name school? CMU (leading Ohio St. by 20 in 2nd rnd of NCAA tourney) has 3 players from Class B schools, 1 from C, 1 from D, 2 from small A/big B
Sad news: Skip Stevenson passed away last night after battle w/ pancreatic cancer. Skip was a mainstay in the Milford athletic community, coaching decades of basketball, most recently the girls varsity coach at the high school, and — most importantly — a good dude. Will be missed
GIRLS BASKETBALL: The (finally!!) initial top 25 teams for the 2021-22 season >>
First thing you'll say ... about time. (yes, it's no longer 'preseason')
Second thing you'll say ... how do you list 35 teams in a top 25 ranking? Hmm ...
After the QF loss two seasons ago, coach Don Palmer said if Sollom kept improving as she had, she’d be able to pick her own collegiate destination. Just did that. Congrats to U-M, Whitney, the Sollom family and the Eagles.
Very interesting ... Western has sort of had its way since the creation of the LVC, but it appears there’s a legit threat to that this year. Huge win for Mott, one of the most consistently steady programs in Oakland County.
A little personal news: I've accepted a job at Owosso
@ArgusPress
starting ... well, yesterday.
If you want to follow me for Shiawassee County sports, I'll be at
@m_argus
(or
@ArgusPreps
). I'll still be writing for Prep Girls Hoops Michigan when I can, too.
Gonna be hard for the Chargers to keep 'hanging out in the weeds' after this one. If you're late to the party, that's cool ... welcome ... but folks around the state are going to have to come to grips with the fact that Dow is legit.
Which girls basketball conferences in Michigan are the toughest? Which one sports the best foursome of potential contenders?
I nerded out and did some math >>
The Ravens are one of those sneaky teams that have just gotten better and better over the last 6-7 years, going all the way from the bottom tier of the Oakland Activity Assn. to now the top tier, the Red.
57-43 win against River Rouge at the Bloomfield Hills Holiday Showcase. Nila Coney had 21 points 5 rebounds 2 steals. Jessica Adams has 10 points 10 rebounds. Samantha Potter had 11 rebs 5 assists. Nine Ravens scored in the game. We are 6-0 on the year.

'Sweet Caroline' was one of Madison's favorite songs. A passionate advocate for organ donation, she saved four lives and gave the gift of sight upon her passing.
Cool moment in tonight's game (), which was dedicated to the memory of 14-year-old Brighton student Madison Wegener, who passed away from idiopathic pulmonary hypertension on Tuesday. Crowd sang 'Sweet Caroline' to a constellation of cell-phone 'stars.'
These are the moments when I love the “we’re doing everything right” crowd, as I stand in a packed hallway, with a dozen people using mask as chin straps. SMH. There’s a reason teams are dropping like flies. That is a large part of it.
MHSAA Girls Basketball District Update: Royal Oak HS Varsity Girls Basketball defeats Southfield AT, 30-26. ROHS advances to the finals this Friday, 7pm, at Marian vs the winner of Berkley/Marian. GORO!
No place I've been this season took more precautions than North Farmington did — screening forms, clearing the gym, no anthem, partitioned off scorer's table. And even the best precautions can't prevent it all ...
Just headshakingly sad (as is each and every story like this one)
Coaches of teams still alive in the MHSAA tournaments coming into today: How are you handling this? Practice as usual? Wait and see?
If anyone wants to comment, I’ll be compiling a story tomorrow/over the weekend. (Email in the bio)
Huge win for Cougars.
Forges a 3-way tie atop the Lakes Valley Conference standings with Mott and Walled Lake Western.
Should be a fun race down the stretch.
Mott has to play at WLW and SLE, while East has both of the other co-leaders at home the second time around.
Hey, remember when the Chippewas were firing up 3s, headed to the Sweet 16? Yeah, this isn't gonna change that, at all ...
Congrats to Kate, and to CMU ...

I'm baaaaaaaaaack.
I know I'm jumping in midstream, but (much like Drew did before me), I'll be doing a couple of roundup stories per week. We no longer have a call center, but if you want your game info included, email me summary info. (Email in bio)
Refs have been ... not up to the status of this game, perhaps. But when both teams had their stars in foul trouble, LSU proved was better equipped to handle it.
Would you rather the stars weren't in foul trouble? Yes. No question.
Missed seeing this last night. Maizie’s 11 makes from 3 not only broke her sister Ellie’s school record, but is tied for the third-most in a game in MHSAA history (five others have hit 11, one has hit more, twice; state record is 15). Heck of a shooter.
Unbelievable senior night tonight for
@CQueary
@davismolly14
@maizietaylor
leading our team. Hot shooting tonight from 3 for the team, but even more impressive is Maizie Taylor braking
@ellietaylor99
record of 10 3’s in a game by hitting 11 tonight & ended w/ a career high 39 pts
Sue Guevara (
@CoachSueG
) for president in 2020!
@CMUWBBall
is going to the Sweet 16 as a No. 11 seed in the women's NCAA tournament.
Fire up Chips, eh?
