When I was a MS student, my advisor told me to multiply projected budgets & timelines by 3 because things will run over. I thought that was ridiculous. Why not just estimate things right the 1st time? Post-PhD, I still think it's ridiculous. Clearly, the multiplier should be 5.

When your husband is also your co-author, you not only have to agree on things like how many kids you want and what (if any) religion you'll expose them to - but also things like when to use commas. Let it be known that @ZachWeiner does not use enough commas.

Anchorwood species of the day: The freakin' eastern dobson fly. This nightmare inducing monster is typically found near streams, where it's a top invertebrate predator. This is a male, which you can tell by the huge sickle-shaped mandibles (females have smaller mandibles).

Anchorwood species of the day: Antlions (Family - Myrmeleontidae, but I don't know the species)!!  The larva dig cone-shaped pits, and hide in the bottom. When an ant gets too close to the pit it falls in, and is grabbed and eaten by the waiting antlion. ⅓
