@BallByBoston @foggyskies @sf0250164 @CodifyBaseball I don't know, but I would say the better pitchers of back then are much better than the better pitchers of today. Gibson might get 500 Ks per year given the way today's hitters are taught to hit, Koufax close to 600.

@foggyskies @sf0250164 @CodifyBaseball I will agree they are putting so much stress on kids to throw harder as pitchers are only expected to go a few innings now. But pitching injuries are way up over the last three decades so they are asking too much.

@foggyskies @sf0250164 @CodifyBaseball There is talk of implementing a new rule in Single A to require starting pitchers to go at least six innings, obviously with caveats. In my belief, this rule could save baseball as getting back to having well established starters would generate a lot more interest in the game.

@foggyskies @sf0250164 @CodifyBaseball Yeah, tell that to Gibson and Koufax. And nobody's ever had a curve ball like Palmer.

@sf0250164 @CodifyBaseball Yep, saw a lot of good players through the years: Gibson, Mays, Banks, Williams, McCovey, Aaron, and many others.

@sf0250164 @CodifyBaseball And I will say a pitching matchup between someone like Palmer and Hunter was anticipated for days, now you rarely see any excitement about starting pitchers. Hell, we scheduled our annual trip to Atlanta to see Bob Gibson pitch.

@CodifyBaseball That is such an insignificant stat, stolen bases were not emphasized in the earlier eras. I remember after Canseco was the first to go 40/40, Mickey Mantle was quoted as saying, "Hell, If I'd known 40–40 was going to be a big deal, I'd have done it every year!"

@ruthannbruno096 @leonardknight @ChrisDJackson Yes, he can grant temporary clearances without background checks. I am saying I wish they would take a month or two to let each of them go through the required checks.

@ruthannbruno096 @leonardknight @ChrisDJackson But they will have access to the private data if they are allowed to look at what they are asking for. They may certainly only look at outflows, but I don't think asking for security clearances is too much.

@leonardknight @ChrisDJackson I certainly hope they require everyone to have at least a SECRET clearance and go through all the background hoops before they look at any private data.

@AFECCG @CorpusCol @CodifyBaseball I love old school baseball. @CorpusCol will remember this, greatest moment in baseball history for my money. Camp was a .074 lifetime hitter.

@AFECCG @CorpusCol @CodifyBaseball I was looking at it because I have seen several posts on Gibson lately so I went back to the first game I can remember.

@CorpusCol @CodifyBaseball BTW, for some reason I was looking at the Box Score for Game 7 of the 1968 WS the other day. Tigers up 3-1 and Bob Gibson bats for himself in the 8th inning, no PH. He was a horrible hitter, I guess it's true that Schoendienst was manager in name only

@CorpusCol @CodifyBaseball I always remember Forster as a pitcher, had no idea he had close to a lifetime .400 average. I am surprised he never pinch hit. Thanks for the post.
