From a Troy perspective, while it would mean (likely) losing the hosting rights to the SBC Championship game it does open the door to a huge resume booster for Troy to still get NY6 consideration.
Given:
- Troy’s two current losses being early season (CFP usually preferences)
That's part of why the waiver would be so meaningful. If Tulane loses another game, JMU would have a NY6 shot even if it drops one of its next two games.

Before Coach Sumrall, I was vocal about immediate need for real leadership that the Troy student athletes deserved. Brent went out and found a champion that lead, supported, and plugged in like no other. Troy needed energy, and Troy found him.

Although may technically have been considered not renewing their memberships?
Also, non football members of SBC including Little Rock and UT Arlington were both removed after 2022.

If the NCAA can make exceptions to bowl season for a 2-8 South Carolina team, a 3-7 Tennessee team, and a 3-7 Arkansas team to accept bowl invites in 2020 ahead of other 5-7 teams, they can make exceptions to the rules for JMU. Could be a string point to make for their case.
