Fan leaves court with no ban, having been told before receiving our legal advice and representation, that he'd be getting a 'mandatory ban' - low level, fine only offence. Not too difficult to work out who gave the incorrect info.....

Two fans (different cases) avoid bans for fine only offences. Both had no previous history with police or club. Made one silly mistake. Court agreed with lawyer’s submissions. One had lawyer at magistrates, other had lawyer on appeal. Lawyers make a difference.

Not all fans are arrested if suspected of an offence, we frequently advise fans invited down the station for a ‘chat’ only to find there’s no tea&biscuits and feels more like a one way ticket to court. Even if at the station, stop, ask for a solicitor.

Police simply confirm 3 people arrested on suspicion of affray. Nothing to say these people aren’t genuine race goers or that they’ll be dealt with robustly through the courts, or that racing is a family sport & there’s no place for disorder

Further stats from 2022: FBO early termination applications: 100% success rate. Opposing CPS/police appeals against magistrates’ refusal to impose FBO: 100% success rate (100% against every one in the last 12 years). Not a guarantee on future performance but doing ok so far…

A record was set today by @Stuart_Dingle @dawsonbarrister and @gurdena on a complex trial originally involving 13 defendants, all pleading not guilty to s4 public order. CPS discontinued against 3 of our 9 clients. Legal submissions half time, case dismissed. Thank you TEAM!

Reminder of how important it is to oppose FBO applications made on basis travelling to/from a football match. Offence is NOT “football related” just because you’re travelling to/from a match, offence itself must relate to football.

#MUFC fans protesting on Sunday - TAKE NOTE! If there are arrests, the worst thing you can do is NOT get a solicitor at the police station regardless of whether you think you are guilty or innocent. Ask for @Football_Legal It's FREE and independent of the police.

1,542 arrests in season 17/18 of which 460 fans received banning orders at court i.e. less than a third of those arrested receive bans. Yet we see application requests for bans in almost every prosecution.

2/2 Here’s how it works: Police contact call centre which lists every accredited solicitor/lawyer & associated law firm. computer knows every solicitor/firm in the country & has several contact tel for them. Call centre calls solicitor. Your right to legal advice, INSIST ON IT!

Reminding fans of their right to free legal representation (particularly for offences which can result in prison sentences)does not equate to condoning offences, neither does it promote evading justice (“getting off”) your interpretation of the “message” is way off.

Currently possession of drugs at football does not allow for a FBO application at court. If it’s 1st offence, fans should get a caution (as they would if not football related) we’ve represented a number of fans charged, and had cases reviewed resulting in a caution instead.
