Fortunately it's not all clinics. At 2am 4x winner Dulce de Leche (Disco Rico) had her 1st foal, a PA-bred colt by Weigelia. This is a powerful nick that I long planned for. We claimed her from the track at MNR for this reason back in summer 2021. A wonderful 1st time Mama.

Horses don't usually make many requests beyond asking for feed. Today Caroline Krystyna made a polite request not to enter her in any more dirt races. She came out of her disappointing dirt race in good order but we will be happy to honor her request. Back to the grass we go!

In November 2022 this old, deaf, skinny fellow jumped onto my lap at a shelter cafe and didn't leave me for an hour. For the next 10 months he filled our lives with his affection, gratitude and love. This weekend he left us. RIP Dr Peaches. 💔

The melting corneal ulcer that my 2 week old filly is in hospital for. These apparently come on swiftly, overnight in this case. 2d photo with blue haze is post treatment. DVM is on top of it, she gets treatment every 2 hours. Fingers crossed.

This Thanksgiving I'm thankful for my friend @jockeywes, who jumped off our homebred filly Van Hook after the post parade in May. Something was off in the warmup and she scratched. A minor injury healed w/o surgery and she is nearing a return to the races.

Most of my weekends are spent checking up on my horses dispersed around the Mid-Atlantic. As you can see, this afternoon Two Bronze Stars was so very happy to see his human daddy. He's training great and pointed to a state bred allowance soon where he should be very tough.

My assistant's favorite part of his duties is feeding peppermints to the broodmares. Mountaineer Cat (in foal to Aloha West) and Dulce de Leche (Weigelia) sniff to see if there might be one more peppermint hidden away somewhere. The girls really liked him. ❤️

Two Bronze Stars led most of the way at Colonial yesterday, yielding the lead only when Johan Rodado came over two paths in deep stretch and tried to put him into the rail. Steadied, he finished a good third. Happily, he came out of the race in good order.

Our VA bred yearling filly CLEARLY INISH (Clearly Now x Roan Inish) is my favorite yearling. Orphaned at 2 months and raised without a nursemare, she's balanced and sizable. Has a long overstride and when she runs she leaves her paddockmates in the dust.

Patience is a virtue in the horse business. I must be among the most virtuous owners. Talented 2yo NY homebred Rescorla (Girvin) trained this year but nagged by a minor issue that didn't need surgery. Turnout and patience have resolved it. He's going back to training this winter.

Caroline Krystyna was doing her best to act demure and coquettish when I visited her a couple days ago. She's a sweet filly but with success she has recently gained a bit of an edge to her character. Our girl is now training up and we hope to give her another race in June.

Age is just a number, or so they say. Our 21 yo mare GG's Dolly is in foal to Warrior's Reward. She wasn't pregnant this past year. The year off gave her tremendous form. This will be her last baby, God willing. A great pedigree, granddam to new @airdriestud Highly Motivated.

Yesterday I got to meet our VA-bred colt out of Malibu Love (Malibu Moon) by the WV stallion Golden Years (Not for Love). Born 3/13. He had his doubts about this 2-legged creature come to visit him. He's a leggy, terrific foal and I couldn't be more pleased.

In 2005 I discovered a young kitten all alone beneath a cottage on Indian Rocks Beach, FL. For the following 17 years he was a boon companion and constant presence in the house. Kidney failure finally claimed him this morning. RIP Herbert.

Yesterday I posted a photo of GG's Dolly. In the afternoon I visited her yearling daughter by Aldrin, half to Tapit. This filly absolutely adores her humans. It was all I could do to get her to stand back and let me snap a picture. To left a Weigelia filly out of Malibu Love.
