Just to clarify what the issue was: AI docs show that Substitute is +6 and Swords Dance is +8 since Slowbro is slower than Calyrex and does not 3HKO. Based on this, the AI should never use Substitute. Something is wrong in the docs, hopefully it gets fixed. Nothing I could do 🤷♂️

Not really the case with Trace, but fewer moves can sometimes make enemy teams harder, because the AI can't click useless moves. E.g., XY Rival's Delphox has insane damage output and perfect neutral coverage with just two moves lol
Guys Trace literally has a pokemon stadium NPC team with 3 moves

@ShckglyGongas I think it's also because Gen II was a rushed add-on after the success of Gen I, but IMO, a justification for something doesn’t exclude it from criticism. Like I can understand why they did something and still think it's bad.
