BIG ANNOUNCEMENT:. After almost a decade of planning and construction, our new, 10,000ft Runway 5L-23R is OFFICIALLY OPENING this Friday, Dec. 17!. We are so excited to celebrate the completion of this project, which will reap benefits for our community for decades to come.

These photos were taken in June to track construction progress, but they also captured a rare moment in TYS history. These photos show the 30+ aircraft that were parked on our runway due to #COVID19. Luckily, these aircraft are gradually being added back into flight schedules.

Today we celebrated #EarthDay AND a big milestone for our Airfield Modernization Program: the final slab of concrete was poured on our new 5L-23R runway, completing the 10,000ft! There’s still a lot that has to be done, but this milestone is definitely something to celebrate!

Runways are similar to roads, but they’re much wider (& can take you to more places)! Our ops dept has been working continuously to keep our runway clear so TYS remains open. Pictured: a 22ft snowplow plowing our 150ft wide runway & a sweeper truck clearing away water. ✈️🌨

We had a special visitor at TYS this am! Zechariah Cartledge, (12yr old!) founder of Running 4 Heroes, runs 1 mile for every first responder who makes the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. He was welcomed by local law enforcement officers & family of local fallen officers.

On October 15, 1937, McGhee Tyson Airport celebrated its grand opening. Today we surprised 82 passengers with TYS swag bags in celebration of the 82 years the airport has been serving East Tennessee. Thank you for flying TYS!
