it’s because all the visual designers went to art school and went straight into ad agencies, and product designers are burnt out psychology majors that learned front end dev on a whim.
product design is a new major but it usually doesn’t include a studio art background
it's amusing how frequently designers say, 'I'm not JUST making things look pretty,' yet finding designers who actually excel at visual design is really tough
