Because this came up...Total EPA generated by QBs (regular season, excluding playoffs, last 4 years):
1. Mahomes.............578.5
2. Allen......................564.0
3. Herbert.................326.1 (Literally 40% less than top 2)
4. Rodgers................309.6
5.
If you just want to look at playoffs. Total EPA Generated just in playoffs, last 4 years:
1. Mahomes..............122.1
2. Allen......................83.7
3. Stafford................54.5
4. Purdy....................42.7
5. Mayfield..............34.9

What was the best regular season by a pass catcher since 2019? A look at the Top-10 highest EPA seasons by a pass-catchers over last 5 years (excluding post-season)
With all the talk about the weapons around Brock Purdy, thought we'd take a look at his production profile against various coverages last season. He was great all around and particularly killed zone coverage.
Coverage Against profile for the
@Chiefs
offense last year. Teams played a lot more man (Cover 0, Cover 1) than in years past, and vs. the League average.
Jalen Hurts struggled much more in '23 than he did in 2022...but what was driving that? A big part was his performance against Cover-0. Teams played C0 roughly 4% of the time last year. But against Hurts? They played it 10% of the time, and Blitzed him on 75% of those downs.
As our positional rankings roll on, we take a look at perhaps the most controversial position to rank, Corners. So much goes into playing the position well and these are the 10 guys we think are doing it the best:
Field Vision's Top 10 Cornerbacks for the 2024 season based on our Havoc Ratings.

A look at
@Tua
's scatter chart from last season. Elite downfield (led the league in EPA generated), elite in the intermediate middle, 1st in yards, 2nd in Yards/attempt, 3rd in completion %, 4th in total EPA generated. We'd say he deserved the new contract...
Few WRs in the NFL bring as much versatility to the field as Brandon Aiyuk. Last year he ranked 3rd in total EPA among all playmakers, 7th in yds, 8th in Y/RR. Very few receivers work the entire field, against every coverage, like Aiyuk does. Total package, easily a Top 10 WR.
We've seen the graph showing Purdy's staggering
#1
efficiency charted vs 49ers' below-average pass pro grade.
We know Purdy has been great over the middle. Look where else he excelled when pressured: Deep + outside the numbers.
A look further under the hood from
@FieldVisionMi
Chiefs/Ravens matchup from the AFCCG, w/the
@Chiefs
on defense. Spags was on a heater the entire season. In this game? He played A TON of man...a death sentence against Jackson unless you BLITZ HEAVY, which he did on 44% of dropbacks. Chiefs got home and rattled him all game.
We've been touting
@_CeeDeeThree
over the past week, but good lord...his performance against man defense is legit. Also, check the
@ChicagoBears
new receiving core. DJ Moore & Keenan Allen 👀
As Jordan Love 'holds-in', a look at his QB profile from 23. 4th in Total EPA, 7th in yards, 2nd in TDs. Despite being 3rd in ADOT, he generated the vast majority of his EPA in the short passing game, and struggled when throwing deep. Does he get more than Trevor Lawrence?
There's a big difference in a corner who is great at man, vs. those who dominate in Zone coverage (which is becoming more & more popular in the NFL).
@The_Coach_A
breaks down your Top 5 man vs. Top 5 zone corners heading into the 2024 season.
Not sure any of the 2024 WR class is matching what
@AsapPuka
did in 2023. Wow. 7th in EPA, 7th vs man, 10th vs zone, and top 6 in 4 of 9 field zones. Downright dominate at all three levels on the right-side. One of the more complete 2023 profiles we've put together👀
@RamsNFL
@billbarnwell
Exactly. Huge premium on young talent at the position now with where the market is going. Notably, the two-time defending Super Bowl Champions have avoided the high wide receiver pay day.
Now that they've got their
#3
locked up, plotting the
@49ers
pass catchers productivity last year (by EPA x Success rate). Size of the mark is each WRs ADOT. Deebo Defintely ceded control of WR1 to Aiyuk. What else stands out?
Few WRs in the NFL bring as much versatility to the field as Brandon Aiyuk. Last year he ranked 3rd in total EPA among all playmakers, 7th in yds, 8th in Y/RR. Very few receivers work the entire field, against every coverage, like Aiyuk does. Total package, easily a Top 10 WR.
Who was the best QB against ZONE defense last year? Here's a look at the Top 10 QBs by EPA against Zone Defense in 2023. Brock Purdy headlining another on of these rankings. But also,
@CJ7STROUD
was slicing up Zones in 2023.
This won't surprise anyone, but a look at the Performance (EPA x Success rate) of the
@Chiefs
pass catchers last year. Plenty of space to improve on what MVS, Toney, James, JWat, Skyy Moore gave them last season. Where do Hollywood, Worthy & even Nikko Remigio fit in here?
The
@dallascowboys
know this, but they might want to lock up
@_CeeDeeThree
. Last Season? 1st in EPA generated with 114.5 (19 pts higher (!!) than
#2
). 1st in receptions. 2nd in yards. 1st in EPA against man coverage. CRUSHES the short area of the field and an ELITE YAC guy💰
Who was the best QB against man defense last year? Here's a look at the Top 10 QBs by EPA against Man Defense in 2023. Don't turn your back on
@JoshAllenQB
3-years, $73M extension with Nico Collins feels like a steal for the
@HoustonTexans
. A look at his 2023 profile: 6th in total EPA among all pass catchers, 6th in YAC, 3rd in Yards/Route Run! A monster in the intermediate/deep middle of the field. Congrats
@lbg_nico7
Because we've gotten some great questions, we looked at some of these splits from Week 10 on last year for Love. After Week 10, Love was 1st in total EPA, and also 1st in the Intermediate part of the field. Substantial improvement. He still struggled deep (20th overall).
In honor of the
@Vikings
making
@JJettas2
the highest paid non-QB in NFL history, resurfacing this 2022 profile on Jefferson. 1st in EPA generated, 1st in yards, receptions, elite against man & zone. Let's just say this deal was a no-brainer.
A look at the production the
@Chiefs
might be losing in the event of a suspension or release of Rashee Rice. Lots of production near the line of scrimmage, in the middle of the Field. He LEAD the entire NFL with 853 yards after the catch as a rookie. Tough to replace that.
.
@Bengals
coverage against profile from '23. It's wild how effective they've been against the blitz in MOFO coverages (Cover 2,4 & 6). When Burrow is healthy, no one better in the NFL. A separator like Jermaine Burton should help them even more when teams don't blitz.
Great deal for
@D1__JW
with the
@MiamiDolphins
. Here's a look at his 2023 profile. 19th in total EPA (in only 14 games), not surprisingly is ELITE in the intermediate middle of the field (2nd only to teammate Tyreek Hill). He produced 2.63 yards/RR, 6th in the league.
A debate broke out about Deebo vs. Rashee Rice, so we thought we'd present the facts: their '23 seasons look eerily similar. Similar EPA, both do the majority of their work behind the LOS or short, both great vs zone but struggle vs man, Rice had more YAC last year (656 vs. 522)
@minakimes
Love this. Our
#s
tell us the same thing. Over the last 5 yrs, Mahomes and Allen are in a Tier of their own. Burrow profiles more like aging QBs that can't stay on the field (Rodgers, Cousins, Stafford). Take out his a few wins against the
@Chiefs
, simply not in the same tier.
Another look at the way defenses played Cleveland/Van Pelt vs. the Patriots last year. Not surprising, teams played WAY more zone against the Browns, and way more man vs. the Patriots. Why? The
@Browns
led the league in EPA vs. C0. The
@Patriots
were dead last in EPA vs. C1.
Top 10 Receivers purely against Man Coverage in the
@NFL
, based on their production, success rate, EPA generated when facing man-coverage.
@_CeeDeeThree
@THE2ERA
. Aiyuk is particularly important to the
@49ers
against man coverage, because Deebo is 137th on this list...
Wanna understand how important
@TrentW71
is the
@49ers
. Check out the profiles of Purdy and CMC. The tilt to the left-side is HEAVY in the niners offense...and it goes away when he's not playing.
A look at DK Metcalf's 2023 season. 18th in total yards, but REALLY struggled against man coverage, and not as productive down the field as you'd expect. Had a reception % of 59% (136th in the league). DK looking for a bounce back in 2024.
A look at Geno Smith profile from 23. The summary: he was middle of the pack in every key metric. He lost over 80% of his EPA on either sacks or scrambles. On just passing attempts, Geno would have been Top10 in the league. Also really struggled on passes behind LOS
@Seahawks
How much has the
@Chiefs
offense evolved? Pictures might not look that different, but check the production - in 2019 they had 36 comps, 1,343 yards and generated 86 EPA. In 2023? 19 comps, 674 yards and 19.2 EPA. Can Worthy, Hollywood and Mahomes bring back the deep threat?
What playmaker has generated the most EPA for the team(s) over the last 5 years? Pretty striking how much of an outlier
@cheetah
is here.
@killatrav
right up there with him. Another standout -
@JJettas2
with only 4 seasons to put up the
#s
👀
Last time we saw these two was in the AFC Champ Game.
@Ravens
turned it around in the 2nd half, but too little too late. How'd they do it? Stopped playing coverages the Chiefs shred, moved towards more looks (C4/C6) they struggle with. How will they play them on opening night?
In honor of TE U, posting the Goat TE profile,
@tkelce
from '23. Even tho he had an "off" season by his standards, he was still 2nd in EPA for all TEs, and ABSOLUTELY DOMINANT in the short/intermediate area of the field. Think he's still got something left in the tank.
@Chiefs
A look at the TE productivity landscape in '23. Even with a down season,
@Giants
have a lot to replace if Waller doesn't return from his offseason music foray. No surprise here on Kittle, Kelce, Andrews...but Ferguson, LaPorta and Hockensen could challenge the big 3 next year.
.
@JJettas2
is
#1
in our Threat Ratings for a reason. A look back at his dominant 2022 season. Just a complete WR against all coverage types, and all areas of the field.
@Vikings
As Courtland Sutton misses
@Broncos
OTAs, a look at his profile from 2023. While he doesn't profile as a
#1
receiver, he is elite at one thing - he led the league in EPA generated in the intermediate left of the field (throws between 10 & 20 yards).
As he looks for a new contract, a look at
@teehiggins5
last full season (2022). The guy is a menace deep down the sidelines, and ELITE against zone: 4th in total EPA against zone, but 1st against MOFO zone coverage. When healthy, he's a top 10 WR in terms of production
@Bengals
A look at Ja'Marr Chase's 2023 season. Despite not having a full season with Joe Burrow, he was still 13th overall in EPA, a monster after the catch and one of the best deep threats in the league.
@Bengals
@Real10jayy__
A detailed look at the 2023 Rashee Rice profile shows just how much the
@Chiefs
needed to go get Hollywood and Worthy to compliment Rice/Kelce. The player Rice profiles most similar to? Deebo Samuel. 4th in YAC, & 2nd (only to Deebo) in the league in EPA Behind the LOS.
While defensive players create Havoc, the best offensive players are always a Threat. Introducing Threat Ratings, from Field Vision - the most comprehensive, data-driven method to evaluate offensive player performance based on actual on-field outcomes.
More at the link below.
As requested, a look at WR performance against Zone coverage in 2023, by EPA generated and Success rate. Amon-Ra St. Brown, Tyreek Hill and Brandon Aiyuk are outliers in terms of being elite against zone coverage.
As we rolled out yesterday, Field Vision's Top 10 safeties for the 2024 season based on our Havoc Ratings. Check out comments below for 11-30 on the list!
Zay Jones vs. Rashee Rice. Reality is, they are different players. Jones (see below) lives much more outside the
#s
and deep, Rice dominates short middle, but is FAR more productive. Rice, 2.21 Y/RR with 853 YAC last year, Jones was 1.05 with just 231. Different players.
An interesting look at now 2 of the top 4 paid QBs in the league from last year. Their production was similiar, but the scatter charts look VERY different.

in the league downfield, where as
@jordan3love
did most of his work short.

Top 10 QBs in Total EPA generated in the Deep Area of the field (Over 20+ Air yards) in 2023 (excl postseason):
Tua Tagovailoa.....................63.2
CJ Stroud...............................61.9
Dak Prescott.........................58.8
Brock
A well-deserved reset of the RB market for Christian McCaffrey and the
@49ers
. CMac is one of the few RBs that adds substantial value in both the Receiving and running game. 1st in total TDs, rushing yards, and runs of 10+ yrs or more. Generates EPA all over the field.
Top 10 Defenses against The Pass in 2023, by total EPA allowed. The
@Browns
pass defense was off the charts. Turns out having an all-world pass rusher helps (Garrett, C. Jones, Parsons, Bosa)...but also, Kyle Hamilton 👀
Our first look at a RB profile for
@CMC_22
, taking a look at his productivity in both the run & pass. 1st in touchdowns, rushing yards, 2nd in receiving yards for a running back, and yes - he hammers the left side. This is where we should also give a shout to
@TrentW71
Christian McCaffrey had 44 runs of 10+ yards, 2023's highest NFL total. He also generated the most deep receiving EPA of RBs.
Interestingly, this
@FieldVisionMi
graphic shows that the bulk of CMC's production in both the run and pass games came to the left side of the field:

And now, our Havoc Ratings at work. Here's a look at our Top 10 Safeties for 2024, based on Havoc Rating. The top 3 shouldn't surprise: Antoine Winfield, Jessie Bates III, Kyle Hamilton were all monsters in 2023, and should be for years to come
CJ Stroud's man vs. zone splits in 23 were wild. He shreds MOFO coverages (esp C2) more than anyone except Purdy - Slowik def plays a role here. But was downright awful against Man. Defenses played far less man against the
@HoustonTexans
than league avg. Will this change in 24?
@LombardiHimself
Aiyuk was off the charts last year. But what was most impressive is his versatility. He did all over the field. short, deep, against man, against zone. Peep his profile below 👀👀

Mentioned
@cheetah
was the only WR in the league to be in the Top 10 in EPA against both Man and Zone coverages in 2023. He is absolutely ELITE - perhaps the most versatile receiver in the league. His only (slight) weakness might be against C4/Quarters.
