Warning - this is v offensive. But it’s very important. These officers were on a WhatsApp group with Wayne Couzens before he abducted, raped and murdered Sarah Everard.
I'm at Westminster Mags Court where three Metropolitan police officers are accused of sending grossly offensive messages in which they joked about sexually assaulting domestic violence victims and much more. This will be a thread.

Durham police expected to announce an investigation into Cummings on the back of this intervention. They can use ANPR and phone data to establish pretty quickly whether he went to Barnard Castle.
BREAKING - PCC of Durham has asked the chief constable to conduct a full inquiry into Dominic Cummings visit. Says there is a "plethora of additional information" in the public domain which deserves investigation.

Cressida Dick going down a bit of a rabbithole there on @BBCr4today suggesting the Duchess of Cambridge was legally at the Clapham Common vigil because she was working. Dick previously said she would have personally attended “if the gathering had been legal” . .

Exclusive. Group of serving police officers are being investigated for sharing misogynistic, racist and homophobic messages with their colleague Wayne Couzens - months before he murdered Sarah Everard.

The Met apologised for Wayne Couzens, they apologised when PCs took pics of murdered sisters, they apologise for sexism, they apologise for racism. They apologise for failing Stephen Port victims. Today they're sorry but say this doesn't represent their values. What does though?.
The Met apologises again. This time its really disturbing behaviour of officers at Charing Cross station where apparently messages about raping colleagues, killing black children + domestic violence were "jokes and banter". One cop known as the "mcrapey raperson". THREAD.

Statement from the Met on this - she was asked to move away from Carriage Gates to "facilitate vehicle access and egress through the gates, she was not arrested and was not asked to leave the wider area".
🔴An anti-Royal protestor holding a poster with the slogan ‘Not my king’ has been pictured being led away by police 👇

This is not the full story on Wayne Couzens. Met police face serious questions re vetting + whether he could have been stopped over earlier, low level crimes. They’ve refused to comment so far citing contempt risk, but that’s gone now. Will we have transparency + accountability?.
How Wayne Couzens plotted his abduction of a woman - and his failed attempts to cover his tracks How Wayne Couzens lied to cover up plans to kill in days before abduction of Sarah Everard.

EXCLUSIVE - Afghan refugee who lied to gain asylum has worked for the Foreign Office and Home Office, accessed "top secret" documents and even met the future King. He's also an alleged Russian spy. Full extraordinary story here by @Effy_Yeomans .⬇️.

Met Police + Home Sec regularly use sub judice to refuse comment on controversial cases of police wrongdoing. Ie. important questions recently blocked re officer charged with rape because of “due process”. I’m unsurprised to see they abandon those rules when it suits their agenda.
We depend on our brave firearms officers to protect us from the most dangerous & violent in society. In the interest of public safety they have to make split-second decisions under extraordinary pressures. 1/3.

Shocking, this. Man who didn’t like @stellacreasy views reported her to social services to have kids taken away. Totally baseless complaint resulted in safeguarding inquiry. Police told her that the man was “entitled” to make this vexatious referral!!!.

Daniel Khalife was cycling along a towpath when a plainclothes counter-terrorism officer spotted him, pulled him off the bike and arrested him. Crucially, noone injured [him, police or the public]. Looks like top work from the Met on a challenging job.
Officers involved in the search for Daniel Khalife are focusing their efforts in and around the #Chiswick area. Khalife is believed to be wearing a black baseball cap, black t-shirt and dark-coloured bottoms, and carrying a small bag or case. Read more .

NEW. Coroner in Maeve Boothy O’Neill inquest has said that treatment and research for ME needs overhaul to prevent future deaths. Reg 28 rulings are too often ignored - Maeve’s case shows how desperately ME patients need action. Over to you @wesstreeting .

Durham police will need to publicly clarify this but my source maintains they spoke to his father.
Downing Street says when Dominic Cummings travelled from London to Durham, during lockdown "at no stage was he or his family spoken to by the police about this matter, as is being reported".

A landmark moment. Maeve Boothby-O'Neill's coroner will issue a prevention of future deaths ruling, the 1st ever for ME. What a vindication of campaigning by @TimesONeill after unimaginable loss. Let's hope the NHS finally makes necessary changes on treatment and research.

This picture perfectly sums up the need for the Met to explain its Partygate rationale. No fine for Simon Case who was emailed in advance + was photographed. Rishi Sunak had no advance knowledge but got fined after turning up for a meeting. Seems illogical.
This photo might as well be captioned: "Why did Simon Case not get a fixed penalty notice for this gathering"?
