This is my villain origin story. Like literally part of why I’m writing my dissertation. Each year 31-40% of CA wildland firefighters are incarcerated. A lot of it is due to the fire industrial complex (capitalism). & part of it is the Romantic idea of wilderness as curative
After reading this you might say “why wouldn’t the released prisoners just become firefighters rather than having to use prison labor” and you would find out that they can’t become firefighters in CA due to their previous criminal convictions

@madelineceee They are pretty neoliberal on some issues (Gaza, COVID), but others fairly radical — to the point they get hate crimed. Pro LQBTQ, pro prison abolition, anti- Trump, address issues of racism in church frequently (albeit imperfectly)
