"Nonbinary" is simply a modern term that describes an infinite number of experiences with gender and non-gender. These experiences are not new nor a they unreal.
"Trans men are only infantilized. They're never seen as a threat." Clearly you have no idea what it means to be seen as a Black man because if you did, you would've never said that. This argument irritates the hell out of me.
If you're a cis woman and want to have a penis, you should be able to get one.
If you're a cis man and want a vulva and vagina, you should be able to get them.
Gender is weird, wacky and has no rules. Yes, you can be cis want HRT and/or surgery.
@EricDSnider
I'm sick of Rowling and her half-assed inclusivity. It doesn't count if she's telling us after the fact. That's not being an ally. That's trying to get brownie points. She loses nothing this way. Put it in the text or don't talk about it all. Same thing with Hermione's race.
Dark skinned cis women are forcefully masculinized because dark skin is seen as inherently masculine. Not all cis women are seen and treated as feminine. Not all cis women are seen as weak and non-threatening.
There is a long history of lesbians binding, going on T, dressing masculinely, going by he/him, using masculine titles (ex. man, boyfriend, husband), getting top surgery, etc. There is nothing that 16 year olds on Twitter can do about it.
I'm really glad that people are showing support for Elliot Page, but can y'all please stop saying "preferred name/pronouns". Take the word preferred out. It's just his name/pronouns. "Preferred name/pronouns" implies that it's an optional thing to say and not mandatory. It is.
Punishing students for falling asleep in class is despicable. You have no idea what's going on in a child's home life. There are many reasons why children come to school tired. If you're not going to do anything to help them, then at least don't make their lives harder.
When you claim that by taking testosterone, someone will immediately pass as a cis man, you're erasing the reality of many trans men, transmasculine, nonbinary, and other gender diverse people.
I wish there were more discussions within the trans community about the racial aspect of gender. White people, cis, trans or otherwise, don't have the dept to talk about it and so you're not going to see those kinds of threads from them.
Let's not forget how people accuse trans men and transmascs as being predatory towards cis gay men. I've seen cis gay men openly say that gay trans men having sex with cis gay men is on the same lines as conversion therapy. Conversion therapy y'all!
It is actually harmful to make consent into an exclusively sexual thing. Understanding bodily autonomy and the right to say no are things that go beyond sex and sexuality. They are things that exist in every interaction that we have with others.
@MtfoxX3
It's one of my favourite works by him. The symbolism of the different rooms was something that I really liked analysing during the time I had it assigned to me in school. Oscar Wilde was right when he wrote that "life imitates art far more than art imitates life."
I've seen a lot of posts about hair. I want to add this--hair is not just hair for a lot of people. Hair carries cultural and spiritual significance as well as personal significance. The idea that long hair is feminine and short is masculine is purely western.
Parents should not be able to opt their children out of sex education. The idea that parents will be the best ones to teach their children about sex is ridiculous. You can't opt out of science or math or literature yet you can opt of out of sex ed.
If you see any of these when job searching, it's ABA:
- Behavioral Analyst
- Behavior Technician/Behavioral Health Technician
- Autism Therapist
- Autism Behavioral Interventionist
There's probably more, but these are what I've seen so far. The first two are the most common.
It's not misogyny to call out that harm that white women cause and have caused. White women are still white and therefore also participate in systemic oppression of non-white people, including men. Way to derail an important discussion!
Since whiteness is constantly seen as the default, this spreads within the trans community too. So, white trans experiences are seen as the default and non-white trans experiences are rarely considered in conversations around being trans.
"AFAB" does not include intersex people who weren't AFAB and have the capability of giving birth.
Intersex people are so often excluded and forgotten from important conversations that directly affect them. Always include and help amplify intersex voices.
@pierrefleury_
My parents abused me. To this day, they refuse to believe it was abuse because their parents did it to them too. They say they're grateful for the beatings they got and don't acknowledge as abuse. This mindset follows people when they chose to have kids of their own. --
What is it with TERFs comparing HRT to doing drugs? It's hormones not crystal meth! It's already inside of you. HRT is just adjusting the levels of hormones that you already have! Cis people go on HRT all the time!
Tell me you only acknowledge the existence of White non-cis people without telling you only acknowledge the existence of White non-cis people. It's not a privilege to be seen as a Black man. I don't know why this needs to be said, but clearly it does.
Seeing trans people attack a trans woman for having facial hair is so gross. It feels so much worse when it's within the community because y'all should know better. No, she's not "making trans people look bad". She's existing just like the rest of us. Leave her alone!
Saying that non-transitioning trans people are not trans, erases the experiences of trans people who cannot transition for medical and safety purposes and due to lack of access to resources. It is ableist, classist, and bioessentialist. You are an asshat.
Shout out to all the queer people with "conflicting labels". I'm so proud of you for finding the words to express you are. You don't need to be understood to be respected. I'm glad you exist. The world is a better place with you in it.
Black men need to go out of their way to not be perceived as a threat. Being a Black trans man means coming to terms with being perceived as a thug, criminal, sexual predator, etc. It means being targeted by law enforcement and being hypervigilant for self-preservation.
No nuanced take: If you think that people have a right to sex, are entitled to sex, deserve sex or whatever, you aren't a safe person to be around because you're advocating for rape.
No, I will not be taking any questions.
As more people become conscious of trans men and transmascs, this is a reminder to not generalize experiences of white trans men and transmacs. Their experiences do not reflect those of all trans men and transmascs.
People on Twitter continuously act like trans men don't experience any level of violence and that really pisses me off. Not taking into account the way that race, class, etc. intersect with being trans really limits the conversation.
@autismwife
Yes! Secondhand embarrassment will having me putting down books, pausing movies, etc. I physically can't bring myself to watch or read any further because it's like it's happening to me.
@keffals
They basically are saying that they want LGBTQIA+ people (particularly youth) to die then. This is not the time to mince words. That's what it is. They have done nothing to disprove it.
There are trans women who are directly affected by abortion bans--intersex trans women with uteruses, and can get pregnant. Like, there are intersex trans women who menstruate, have PCOS, endometriosis, etc.
They shouldn't be forgotten.
I've been thinking about this for a while.
I don't understand the need to go after queer people who want to start queer cafes/bookstores/bakeries. Why is the fact that people want a place that's safe for recovering alcoholics and drug addicts, sex-repulsed people, minors, etc. upsetting to you? Seriously??
Funnily enough, not all trans men have the same experiences with oppression. It's not as simple as "trans men are infantilized and not talked about". You need to take into account race and ethnicity, class, etc.
Saying testosterone makes you misogynistic isn't the move you think it is. Does that mean that intersex women who have high levels testosterone are misogynistic? Are you saying that trans girls and women who haven't started HRT are misogynistic?
I hate that ACAB has been watered down to the extent that people are saying identity police should be included. ACAB was created to talk about police brutality and corruption. Like, I didn't know identity police shot unarmed Black people and do no knock raids.
This constant "need" to paint trans men as the enemy is really getting out of hand. Like, "trans men are men" is turning into a dog whistle at this point because it's becoming twisted into something meant to deny the fact that trans men are victimized and discriminated against.
If you're gender marker is changed to M, you can be denied gynecological care. You have then contact your insurance to explain that you need pap smears, mammograms, etc.
Also if you're a trans man talking about reproductive care online, people will try to invalidate you.
Cis men do exclude trans men, by the way! Maybe you haven't see it yourself, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't happen. We don't need to make everything a comparison between trans women and trans men.
@pierrefleury_
They rationalize what happened to them, and believing it to be just and right, treat their children the same way that their parents treated them.
I honestly believe that there's a lot of people who see their children as possessions rather than autonomous human beings. --
I have been thinking for a long time about why this argument bothered me so much. This isn't exclusive to Black men. It happens to other non-White men as well. However, I'm not as knowledgeable on those experiences and don't want to misrepresent them.
I've said this before: no one is 100% estrogen or 100% testosterone. Everyone has a combination of both. Hormones are way more complicated than what people are making it out to be. Hormones are non-sentient and therefore can not be good or evil.
@cellophanesgirl
Parents are supposed to love and protect their children, yet so many cause a lifetime of trauma. Children are under no obligation to forgive or even accept the apologies given to them by their abusive parents. Just because they gave us life doesn't mean we own them ours.
It feels like people like taking cheap shots at trans men because they feel like it's more "socially acceptable" to do within trans spaces. They also act like it's "gender affirming". "Well you're a man right? So obviously I have to hate you the same way I would hate a cis man."
CW: Murder, anti-transmasculinity, transmis
Trans men and transmasculine people are made hyperinvisible. So, when a trans man or transmasculine person is killed, barely anyone notices or cares. Then they go on to say that trans men and transmasculine people don't get killed.
CW: misgendering a murdered trans man, anti-transmasculinity, transmisia
🧵 You don't have to go very far to start seeing stuff like this about Malte, a trans man who was killed at a pride event in Germany. This is just a small sliver of the stuff that is being said about Malte.
When conservatives talk about "little girls being targeted by gender ideology" they're not talking about trans girls. They're talking about trans boys and nonbinary children they paint as girls. They are explicitly painting trans men as predatory.
@MarsinCharge
I was going over more family trauma in my therapy session this week. Every time I talk about it, I realize how ridiculous and chaotic my life has been. I've been called this and an old soul since I was small. No, I just carry a lot of pain in my heart.
CW: Eating disorders, child sexual abuse
Not liking people claiming that all eating disorders stem from fatphobia. For many people it comes from child abuse, particularly child sexual abuse. There are also pica, which is eating things that aren't food.
Not all cis women are seen as being in need of protection. Dark skinned cis women are demonized and villainized all the time. Their anger is seen as threatening. They are seen as threatening even when they are not angry. People police the angry of non-white cis women regularly.
Testosterone is a scheduled 3 controlled drug and is pretty much illegal to DIY. Transmascs are not demonizing or fearmongering taking testosterone nor are they all trying to say you should never DIY. They are simply addressing the risks involved.
When you don't include racial analysis to gender you're missing out a large chunk of the discussion, which is why a lot of discussions of gender by white trans people fall flat. Racism very much plays a role in how people are gendered in society.
It's not really surprising at this point to see Caitlyn Jenner demonizing other trans people. Yes, she's trans but that's it. She's never shown any desire to fight for trans rights or stand beside her fellow trans person.
"Secondhand dysphoria" is projection. It's when a trans person projects their dysphoria onto another trans person. They basically telling the other person how to feel about their body.
Claims of secondhand dysphoria are very harmful.
It's true that there are a lot of eggs out there that think this way, but there are also a lot of cis people who do too. Many might feel too ashamed to express that desire for fear of possible discrimination and mistreatment from others.
"Angry Black woman" and "spicy Latina" are two very harmful tropes that exist as a result of racialized misogyny. Talk to Black and brown cis women! They'll tell you!
Adult sexualize kids media so much! Let children have media for them. Adults feel so entitled to children's spaces and content centered around children and childhood. They end up making those spaces unsafe for the audience that it was intended for.
Nonbinary people include:
- nonbinary men
- nonbinary women
- demi-boys
- demi-girls
- multigender people with men as one of their genders
- multigender people with women as one of their genders
- genderfluid people who are sometimes men

White womanhood is seen as a default to womanhood. Anything outside of that is seen as a threat to womanhood. Dark skinned women, visibly, are the furthest from white womanhood and are seen are the biggest threats to white womanhood.
You are white. Latino is not a race. The are Black, Asian and Indigenous Latinos. White-passing was not intended to be used for non-Black people. Spaniards literally colonized Central and South America. There are so many white Latinos. Spanish is a colonizer language.
i can’t believe i have to say this again but
yes, being white-passing is real and it’s a form of privilege, but
white-passing is not the same as white
NOBODY who is latinx is white
latinx is a racialized identity
no matter how “transparent” i am, I AM NOT FUCKING WHITE
Can trans twitter not moralize hormones for like five minutes? Testosterone is not inherently harmful nor is estrogen inherently good. They are neither. Trying to talk about them like they are good or bad will inevitably hurt people. So, let's not do that.
LRT: The "right to sex" ultimately equals "the right to have access to someone's body" which is not a right. No one has a right to anyone else's bodies. No one is obligated to allow others to have access to their body.
Consent needs to be a part of sex education as well as outside of sex education. It needs to be taught as early as possible. Consent informs many of everyday interactions we have with people in ways we don't realize. Children are not being informed on how to navigate them.
Long before Roe vs. Wade got overturned, trans and nonbinary people who could get pregnant had a hard time accessing reproductive care that was gender affirming. Many trans men have and continue to avoid the gynecologist due to transmisia.
LRT: White people appropriating "Boi" will always piss me off. It was never theirs to take. It's for Black Queer people. It's not a meme. It's not a funny way to spell "boy". It's legitimate identity for Black Queer people. It should be respected.
Maybe because some of us are not white and will get killed by the police. A white person with a gun is "an American upholding their right to bear arms". A Black person with a gun is "a thug/criminal/gangster".
I'm so tired of the topic of male gynecologists being brought up every x amount of weeks/months because fundamentally the conversation centers cis endosex women and completely ignores everyone else who needs to go to gynecologist.
People think of playgrounds as safe places for kids, but did you know that playgrounds were created as a way to control children? There were Playground Associations were adults were trying to get children to "play correctly". There was also xenophobia involved as well.
Anger is more racialized than it is gendered. Any relationship to gender to highly dependent on race. Anger is white women is generally not seen as threatening--even when it is. It is seen as threatening in Black women, because Blackness is seen as threatening.
Hey! If this helps a bunch of eggs realize that they aren't cis that's great! Transitioning should be a system based on informed consent. It shouldn't be insurance companies and doctors acting "in loco parentis" and being condescending towards people seeking healthcare.
CW: anti-nonbinary rhetoric
🧵 Nonbinary people are constantly being made into a joke by others. There was a narrative going around that being nonbinary was a thing invented on Tumblr. People would blame everything on Tumblr. This is just a one example of it.
There needs to be more queer rep in adult fiction. I'm glad that there is a ton of it in YA, but I also wish that older queer characters were written more about and given just as much love.
I saw a list of ableist insults and slurs to avoid and I would like to add anything related to brain damage, brain trauma, having half a brain (this is a real thing), etc.
This is even more true when you facture in non-Eurocentric features. Everything is gendered--including emotion, but it is also racialized as well. This also extends to abstract things like emotion. A huge example is anger. Anger is gendered and racialized.
People also consider queer women to be predatory as well. There was a lot of "concern" around lesbians being in locker rooms with straight girls. Bigots believe that all queerness is inherently predatory while also treating it as a contagion that needs to be eliminated.
@oraliea_
People are so quick to go after face tattoos. Y'all are so inti-Indigenous and not afraid to show it. Tattoos do not affect a person's ability to do their job. Tattoos are also deeply cultural and spiritual and discrimination based on that shouldn't be tolerated.
Black women, whose womanhood is seen as threat to white womanhood, are masculinized. Their anger, by extension, is masculinized. They don't have to actually be angry. Just the assumption of anger is enough for them to be a threat.
Children have no power over their parents. They are entirely dependent on them. Children act violently, they lash out, etc. They do not have the power to abuse. Especially small children. Like, how are you going claim a toddler is abusing you?
Get rid of the idea that trans men have it easier.
Get rid of the idea that trans men can "pass" easily".
Get rid of the idea that trans men do not face any violence.
Get rid of the idea that no coverage equals no victims.
Also, if you're are looking at this post and thinking, "Ew, men with vaginas!" and/or "Ew, women with penises." 🧐 Methinks you are a bigot!
That's all I have left to say.
I went from IDing as a binary trans man named Seth to a hyperfeminine agender stargender boi who's also a boy (not man) who uses multiple sets of pronouns named Cælestis. I changed labels so many times. It's amazing how much you learn about yourself over the years. I still am.
This is what amatonormativity does. It create a false hierarchy of relationships, placing romantic relationships over all other types. It treats friendship as frivolous and as childlike and romance as serious and mature.
If you’re committed to the single life, that’s awesome and I genuinely love that for you, but you have to be willing to accept that your friends might eventually prioritize their serious, long-term partner whom they’re building a life and possibly a family with, over you.
A lot of people on Twitter only acknowledge bisexuality when they're trying to invalidate another identity. "Oh, you're a cis gay man attracted to trans men. Oh, you're really bi." "Oh, you're bigender and are only attracted to women? Oh, you're really bi."
@Pixelfish
Even if you can't be a doctor, that doesn't mean that you have less value. Being autistic doesn't make you less worthy of respect and dignity. Worth is intrinsic and not based on how you perform labor. Regardless of your ability to work, you have a right to exist.
Black manhood is seen as inherently violent. Black men don't have to be angry to be seen as violent. They could be happy and still be seen as a potential threat to the safety of others. This is particularly true for dark skinned Black men.
@nervetoucher
Rarely do abusive men reveal how abusive they are in the beginning of a relationship. They're charming, charismatic, romantic, etc. They can overwhelm you and make you feel like you're living in a fairytale romance. They're incredibly manipulative and deceptive.
Never assume that a child's tiredness is simply because they were staying up all night messing around. Child face all sorts of issues that rob them them of their sleep. Even if they were messing around, there are more effective ways of helping students with poor sleeping habits.
Trans men are men. They are also men who need access to healthcare that is considered only for women.
Trans men deal with horrific medical discrimination which has cost the lives of many. This is still an ongoing thing.
@pierrefleury_
Anyone who dares to question their mindset and parenting is a threat because you're not just questioning their parenting, you're also questioning their parents' parenting as well. You're questioning everything they believe to be just and right.
Endosex/perisex trans people keep the AGAB discourse trending because they are talking over intersex people and demonizing afab transfems. Yesterday was Intersex Awareness Day. You all are demonstrating one of the reasons why this day is so important.
