There’s a lot to like about hazbin/helluva imo, I personally like the designs but ive been following vivziepop online since I was a pretty young kid and have always liked her style. Zoophobia is a nonsense half finished clusterfuck of a comic but the characters are fun.

The music is mostly fantastic with a few major misses. Whenever either show tries to do a more pop esque or super sad track it’s usually terrible (both carmilla songs in hazbin are awful for instance) but the showtunes are great.

The joke writing in helluva boss has been pretty hit or miss with character beats mostly being good, whereas hazbins comedy is great but it’s major character moments mostly fall flat for me.

@Togamau1 I don't think the story will play out in the traditional "all the sinners are saved"!!!!! way either. Pentious' redemption puts a wrench in the works cus it proves there is some divine authority that can redeem sinners, which begs the questions of 1. Who and 2. Are they just.

@Togamau1 The throughline of self-improvement and the unjust hierarchy of heaven V.S. hell aren't cogent with each other unless in a later season Charlie (and the hotel at large) realize the very idea of needing to be redeemed and brought unto the light is formed of unjustified assumption.

@Togamau1 As a long time fan of hers, I'm hoping the wonky morality of Hazbin's first season is intentional and will get hammered out later down the line. The (probably unintended) racist allegory is sadly built into the framework of the setting, but I'm all for analyzing 'problematic' art.

@8b8b2022 ive been tinkering with writing some kind of video essay about this exact topic, but I'd need to do a good deal more research on the history of vodou. Sadly, this kind of criticism has sorta been drowned out by the deluge of hate so it's hard to find any well-researched writing.
