Imagine educating people to be critical thinkers then thinking they won't hold you to account for complicity in genocide.

Lambeth Council has rejected my request to allow a petition for the council to use its influence to call for a
#ceasefire
in
#Gaza
. They said it would breach of their rules on 'publicity' & not an issue for the council. I wonder if
@lambeth_council
were also in breach here?
I wrote to my MP
@ChukaUmunna
about
@realDonaldTrump
's xenophobic behaviour & that he shouldn't be welcome here.
Pleased to read Chuka's response: "Donald Trump is normalising hatred. His visit the UK should be cancelled indefinitely."
I'm really surprised at (so many) comments on this hashtag that it's a woman's own choices that lead to pay gap. Hello.. Men also choose to have children? Why don't we recognise that so women aren't penalised for choices we all want to have?
#GenderPensionGap
"Women earn less because they have children. That's their choice."
Asshole, those children have fathers too. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM.

@a_leesha1
I contacted my local Green Party reps and they were not interested in supporting Palestine. I would be careful to automatically assume they are a viable alternative.
@a_leesha1
I'm aware at the party level they are calling for a ceasefire, but they do not have consistent quality candidates. After this whole situation I feel any party must work for our votes, not just assume any vacant opposition space.

Here's what the co-opting of diversity & inclusion looks like. To support the killing of one people 🇵🇸 when you denounced the killing of another 🇺🇦 while peppering 'diversity' in the same breath is an insult.
Please read below Lambeth Labour Group's statement on the motion submitted to tonight's Full Council meeting concerning the conflict in the Middle East
This is outrageous. Not only are they blocking any debate on Palestine but now they are censoring the flag? Such blatant racism is not acceptable in Lambeth. Please can
@lambeth_council
clarify if it censoring all flags or just Palestine?

It's not really acceptable that racism is institutionalised in this way in some of the most diverse Boroughs in the country. Unfortunately political parties appeal to us to get our votes but refuse to represent us when it comes down to it.
Goodness Gracious Me was so genius. That sharp, power reversing, 'inside-joke' humour is needed more than ever. People still get my name wrong in emails. Would love to see that torch carried forward. You guys were great.

Shame on
@lambeth_council
for hiding behind procedures & semantics as children are murdered. A 'sustainable ceasefire' is not the same as an immediate

. You can only afford to play games like this when you don't view Palestinian lives as equal.
Interesting(surprising?) outcome of vote on what kind of growth strategy participants would pick for

Made the most of summer 2020. Kept ourselves locked away thinking it'll be over and need to push through, but now only 400 cases a day, as it was last summer, seems like a dream...
The majority of thinking seems to be based on nuclear families which don't include elderly or vulnerable individuals. Whether it comes to risk appetite or response strategies, communities where family structures are more common have to think & plan differently.

Sunday: "No one should be in any doubt, there is a tidal wave of Omicron coming"
Monday: 'NHS website overwhelmed by booster demand and runs out of lateral flow tests in England.'
Doesn't seem like a great way to manage a pandemic. Great for resetting the news cycle though.
Really interesting to hear about how, in practice, development has been merging with other national & international agendas in recent years.
I think there are many risks of development objectives being skewed but overall cross-collaboration seems vital for impact.

Despite recent clampdowns on Free Speech, it's still important to remember that the UK has some of the highest freedoms of anywhere in the world. As citizens, we have many democratic rights & routes available to us to effect change.

Shame on

's cowardly approach to leadership.
Streatham residents stand behind principles, not parties. Solidarity with our Councillor
@Martin_Abrams
for not being afraid to speak out for his principles. ✊🏽
A Jewish Labour councillor has alleged factions in the party are trying to kick him out of his job for criticising the leadership’s position on the Israel-Hamas war.
Recently I participated in a panel for

Requiring a graduate / post-graduate qualification from a top-level university is an (often unneeded) proxy for exclusion, undermining commitments to diversity.
Interesting insight from a paper we are reading "A bachelor degree is the most essential need in any business now a days, however, in resumes education part is usually listed in the bottom (Owyang, 2012).'
I was a bit skeptical about
#clapforNHS
compared to what they really need from us, but after seeing my whole street errupt into applause I realised the sense of community, emotions people are feeling, and the morale boost is more important than the politics of it right now.
Returning to my old department

Saddened to see the response from many people to incidents in
#Streatham
today. Perhaps its the polarising effect of years of Brexit. The facts seem secondary. Xenophobes out in force.
But we will model a proper response here in
#Streatham
because we are a resilient community.

challenge to panel: will technology address skills mismatch or not?
#PwCIDC2017
Panel share examples of tech supporting learning, potential of blockchain. Tech as a fundamental solution.
I hope in future we remember this moment, as a rich country: better pay for NHS workers & those essential to keeping our society working; provide proper protective gear; not vote for a party that stripped the NHS back; and stay at home!
I get the sense the media is once again catalysing panic, just like the petrol crisis. Click bait headlines that spin what scientists are actually saying, if you read the articles.
Looking for the truth somewhere between 'sensational' and 'denial.'
No matter what it takes, Londoners will keep speaking out for justice, and holding those who are on the wrong side of history to account.
Felt proud to see Streatham represented by
@BellRibeiroAddy
today. ✊🏽
Do our MPs & Councillors really think this will just blow over? We will not stop until the bombs stop & every genocide enabler is held to account. 🇵🇸✊🏽

The complicity of our institutions shows just how dangerous institutionalised racism is.
It allows a state to openly support a literal genocide because the belief that one life is more valuable than another is so ingrained.
Martin represents what I expected of my elected representatives, to represent the community. Meanwhile, institutionally racist
@LambethLabour
forgot it was meant to represent us & has instead been representing the arms industry & Kier Starmer. Kick them out.
Nice amount of (typical) abuse for asking why they labelled it a terrorist incident before facts have emerged (as they always do). That's mutually exclusive of whether it actually is or not. Sky/BBC also discussing it so go take your snarling elsewhere.
@Amierasawas
@zahrahnesbitt
Goodness.. it's really shocking. I'm all for making people feel uncomfortable as possible about it😂 Also been tempted to purposefully mix up other people's names in an act of petty revenge.
Hi
@clairekholland
, could you clarify if Lambeth was in breach of its constitution when it raised the Ukrainian flag, fundraised, & appealed for residents to host Ukrainian refugees, but won't host a petition calling for ceasefire in Gaza? Or is it just institutionalised racism?
