Should @fantasy_top_ leave Blast? A more nuanced take on this elaborate question. It started off as a joke in the Fantasy chats, with Blast TGE being disappointing, and other apps either leaving Blast or dying out entirely. Fantasy however, was still thriving, and every month we were still rewarded with Blast Gold which inherently holds value. So what changed? Realistically not much. Fantasy is still thriving, and Blast is still a dead chain, barely used by anyone for anything besides Fantasy. However, after Season 2 ended, we are now entering our second month with zero benefits or incentives from Blast to use any apps on their chain. Blast went the route of ONLY giving Blast rewards out to stakers on their amazing state-of-the-art Mobile App. No news if this is temporary or permanent, but this has made the question of whether Fantasy should move chains ever more real, and a lot more people have started asking it. What other chains can we go to, what options are there? A couple of requirements of the new chain: - High throughput (high TPS) - Low transaction costs - Large userbase - Low amount (preferably zero) outages - Ease of migration - Incentives I have created this Matrix to quickly give an overview of what chains have come up and what we can expect on each chain. 1. Solana - One of the highest TPS + Low TX chains, with probably the most active users of any chain. However, this also causes transactions to fail on occasion and has had some downtime in the past. In addition, Solana would not give Fantasy any chance of an airdrop, points or incentives. Migration might also be slightly trickier as we are moving from an ETH L2 into an entirely new ecosystem. @0xMert_ has offered his help and support which makes it a slightly more attractive option. 2. Base - Probably the most popular L2 out there at the moment, by Coinbase. High TPS, low TX cost, and near-zero outages and failed transactions. Userbase slightly smaller than Solana but still very large. Ease of migration I expect to be better than Solana as we are moving from one ETH L2 to another ETH L2. No direct incentives are offered, but Base is a tokenless protocol, so any activity you do on the chain could potentially get you an Airdrop in the future! An additional (small) benefit, if $FAN ever launches, it can be on Base which means a larger chance of getting listed on Coinbase. 3. Berachain - Hot off the press! Berachain launch is imminent and therefore it has been brought up as a potential migration option. It has high TPS, low TX costs, and a large userbase, although not as large as Base or Solana. Uptime is hard to judge, testnet had some issues, but that's a testnet. Mainnet will still have to prove itself but I have faith they fixed all the issues (that's what a testnet is for!). Ease of migration is where the real struggle lies, as Berachain is an EVM compatible L1, built on the Cosmos SDK. A different beast entirely than an ETH L2. Incentives are unknown, but I expect that something can be worked out for a big app like Fantasy to move to a brand new chain! We also have @Cbb0fe as a Fantasy enthousiast with close ties to @SmokeyTheBera who is also a Fantasy card, so the professional tie-ins are there already. 4. Ethereum - Lol. Lmao, even. I had to include it just to show what a bad option this would be. Apps like Fantasy are the prime example of why ETH L2s are a must have. TPS on ETH is low, TX cost is unsustainable for any small transactions so buying and selling most cards is off the table. Userbase is large, and the uptime is great. Ease of migration is probably also quite good since going from ETH L2 to ETH seems like a relatively small step. Incentives will be zero, as the ETH foundation needs to sell more tokens to fund their yearly golf cruise in the Carribean. 5. Abstract - Another new shiny toy that just launched. As an ETH L2 it has great TPS, barely any tx cost, and (so far) great uptime and near-zero failed tx. However, the userbase is low, and volume on the chain is also very low. It will be relatively easy to migrate as it is also a full-stack ETH L2 (quite similar to Blast), and there could be some great incentives in the form of Abstract XP which will be an airdrop in the future, however, the value of this is unknown as Abstract has not gained much traction so far, and we might just be migrating to Blast 2.0. Also, when @0xCygaar hero on Fantasy? 6. Blast - Of course, we have to consider the option of just staying on Blast. After all, the TPS are great, TX cost is very low, we had near perfect uptime and near-zero failed transactions. Userbase is the smallest of any of the aforementioned options, but if the app is good enough, one might argue the users will come to you regardless of what chain you are on. The end of incentives is what really sparked this conversation to begin with, so if those return at any point in the future, I think the choice is clear, and staying on Blast will likely win out over the other options. Don't forget it will also save much dev time, not having to migrate to an entirely new chain. 7. FantasyChain - Create your own chain with blackjack and hookers! No seriously, please do not do this, it will take a lot of time and there are plenty of chains out there already. Please.
