To stand at the edge of the sea … to watch the flight of shore birds that have swept up and down the surf lines of the continents …is to have knowledge of things that are as nearly eternal as any earthly life can be. - Rachel Carson Excited for @MIT 10th Biophysics Retreat!

Excited to share the latest from my group, out in @PRX_Life. Wonderful work from former @MIT_Physics students @JunangLi, Josh Liu & Michal Szurek on measuring irreversibility in complex biological systems using deep learning tools.
Biological systems are irreversible, but it has been difficult to capture how precisely. A new model-free #MachineLearning approach uses factorizing variational autoencoders to extract irreversibility measurements in complex living processes. 🔗

Fantastic meeting celebrating soft & living matter, & honoring Andrea Liu, the Duchess of Disorder! I couldn't agree more with Paul Chaikin – the future of soft matter is nonequilibrium physics & it's incredibly bright! @Soft_Living_Mat @ApsDsoft
We are excited announce our Kickoff Meeting, to be held Wed-Thu June 12 -13 at @Penn, featuring a diverse range of speakers and topics in soft and living matter. Registration is required, but free: Join us for two days of exciting science in Philly!
