Serious social & political scientists should research this. Why do Rwandans living outside Rwanda, whose government is supposed to be a “terrible dictatorship”, go to vote in large numbers, in elections that are easily dismissed by “experts”? This is at the embassy in Kampala.

Zambians have elected one of their wealthiest compatriots as their new president. It may mean nothing politically. It may not make him a good leader. But it could mean he won’t be out to make money for himself, or to facilitate his entourage to do so. In that, they will be lucky

I may be mistaken in this, but is Bobi Wine not the first party leader to invite, meet, and brief local councillors elected under the banner of his party about what is expected of them? Take it or leave it: that young man is a real leader.

It has become rather fashionable to diss Bobi Wine. Despite all the disadvantages of his childhood, he got a decent formal education. He then went on to build a successful musical career, pulling himself up by his own bootstraps. He established a stable family by the looks of it

Bobi Wine may have indulged in excesses in his youth. Most people do. He may not possess the capacity 2 give a lecture on fiscal policy (how many do?). But he has things that so many don't have, including his detractors who dare not even use their real names: courage & character.

The way #NUP handled the Mpuuga saga shows a party attempting to introduce a culture of values in politics. The way politicians across the political divide and many ordinary Ugandans have reacted, by blaming NUP, shows that we aren’t prepared for such a development. Discuss.

Here is clear evidence that donors indulge us too much. It’s only after they threaten to withhold their money that we think we should “sit down and discipline our expenditure”. Aid as a sedative…

In Africa, neither democracy nor authoritarianism will solve our problems of hunger, disease, poor-quality education, injustice, discrimination, ethnic bigotry, wars, corruption, etc. It's good leaders presiding over effective governments/states that will. How do we get them?

Kenyans are voting. In Uganda, “patriots” (aka NRM activists) are out looking for and identifying Ugandans who “don’t love their country” because “they are praising Kenya”.

It is gd that in Rwanda independence day is not celebrated. African governments waste so much money on independence day jamborees. Then their leaders waste so many words telling stories that no one remembers, and making promises they don't keep. I like the silence in Kigali 2day.

Opposition leaders in Uganda who of late have specialised in hurling & exchanging insults… What is their position on Operation Wealth Creation; the Parish Development Model, the state of the education and health sectors, and the concerns of coffee farmers and traders/exporters?
