Getting the Mesh as close as possible to the art is really important. It makes 1 to 1 texture painting way easier.

Made ARkit Facetracking for Ben Bigger!
I used to the Oficial MMD model and some Blender magic to make it.
There is a bit of scuff here and there but not bad for my first time working with a furry model it was good practice!

To make 2D mouth that use sprites or textures Using Blendshapes with transparent textures will work on VRC Warudo and VRM. You can set the Blendshape animations to “Snap”/”Binary value” to have this planes change instantly and still be compatible with many programs.

Cool poiyomi effect called “Panosphere” to make interesting materials. You will need a somewhat tailiable texture to work better.

Texture Wip!
I do most of my texture painting in blender and all of this textures here were done using a mouse ( for clean textures like this a tablet in not needed).
There is also my general UV layout for face textures. AS well as the layers and their general set up. 8 layers

If you are interested how the pros make their model I highly recommend getting the ZZZ 3D models. Also is probably better you do this sooner rather than later the main website that hololive used for their oficial MMD model went down a month ago and is still down you never know.

Everything that is shown in blender is hand textured. Typically with anime model like this one is hard to get the effects you want using materials so we just texture it in.

If you ever wonder how I got my OC.
I tried to make a toon link model but I don't know how shaders worked
I Then decided to give it a gura outfit
For the face I din’t know what a bleshape was so I just drew it in.

Bare witness! I have Learn Poyomi 8.1 (toon outline)
2 tone shadows
Rim light Clear coat with masking
Masked Emission with UVOffset animations
and cleaver use of the Emission blinking feature to make the heart do the ting.
