This “protect personal data” trope is akin to “I can’t discuss an ongoing investigation”. Our elected officials need that data and should be bound by the same privacy rules as non-elected bureaucrats. How do we expect good policy to be made if they can’t access this data?

@elonmusk if I were the Secretary of the Treasury, I’d simply cut off all payouts that I couldn’t see the information for.
