Mercedes was in Indy ball last year probably paying to play. Every HR he hits adds to his potential life changing pay day. “Old School” thinking like this is destroying baseball and quite frankly is more of an embarrassment than a big league hitter swinging 3-0.

Coaches please listen carefully: if a youth athlete is complaining of arm pain especially elbow pain, throwing through it will NOT make it better. There should NEVER be pain when throwing, EVER. Pain is an indicator that something is wrong and needs attention.

For Northern Colorado friends who don’t know: Carl Iwasaki, former UNC baseball coach and Grand Junction Jackalopes assistant, died yesterday.
I’ve said my success in this job is due in large part to coaches who have treated me well. Carl is one of them.

This is where I feel the old school and new school class on terminology. The old school says swing down on the ball, which is what the hands are doing here. The new school says swing up on the ball, which the bat head is doing here. Same swing, different terminology.
Some perspective on why many hitters feel and think top hand down. It’s because the top hand goes down. However, we don’t want to ‘chop’ at the ball, so how do we create path with the top hand moving down...

Never understood straight line 60’s for a baseball player. Why not run a 1st to 3rd or Home to 2nd instead? More functional and a test of actual base running skill. If you’re running 60yds in a straight line on a baseball field you’ve done something horribly wrong.
