"Growing up, I knew I was deaf and there were barriers, but it was normal to me. I put up with it. That was life." Spoke to England Deaf's all time leading run scorer, Umesh Valjee, on his career, deaf awareness, and why disability cricket matters.👇

This framing is a shocking example of what I wrote about in my newsletter: "Making the ‘shared gender struggle’ the primary concern centres the white woman’s experience, as if hers is the norm, while ignoring that to be Black and a woman is entirely different."

If he’s willing to say that live on national radio, imagine what’s he’s saying off air to his colleagues

Respect to @shebahn for standing up to a dinosaur live on the radio. Anyone ignorant enough to still think "no one cares" about #MUwomen ought to see their fans waiting at 6am in the Old Trafford car park to embark on 10-hour round coach trips for away games. True football fans.

“You may say discrimination has no place in the game, but the sooner we admit that testimonies of racism (& misogyny in Shaw’s case) in contemporary women’s sport aren’t the first or the last, the better.” From my latest newsletter:

Manchester City were appalled to learn that Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw was subjected to racist and misogynistic abuse following Sunday’s fixture. Discrimination of any kind, either in stadiums or online, will not be tolerated and has absolutely no place inside or outside the game. Bunny has decided not to share the messages publicly so as not to give the oxygen of publicity to the vile individuals who sent them. The content has been shared with the authorities. An investigation will follow, and the Club offers our full support to Bunny following the disgusting treatment she’s received.

@ashabirdii absolutely I completely agree - so important to recognise how deep rooted it is throughout media - particularly anxiety inducing given the role it plays in upholding democracy. Thank you for reading!!
