We are pleased to welcome Dr. Monica Navia-Urrutia to the Everglades REC team. She recently joined EREC as an Assistant Professor in the Plant Pathology Department. Dr. Navia-Urrutia's research and extension will focus on plant pathology of sugarcane, sod, and rice. @EvergladesREC

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Niguss Solomon Hailegnaw to the @EvergladesREC team. He recently joined EREC as an Assistant Professor in the Agronomy Department. Dr. Hailegnaw will be working on nutrient management of sugarcane, sweet corn, rice, and various vegetables. He will also serve as the Director of the Everglades Soil Testing Lab. #IFAS #UF

The @EvergladesREC had a great visit from Meg Weinberger, Florida House of Representatives, District 94 @megforflorida. She enjoyed learning about our research programs, rich history, and more information about the Everglades Agricultural Area. @EvergladesREC had the pleasure of being invited to the annual Farm City Luncheon sponsored by @BaptistHealthSF . It was a great opportunity to connect with governmental, community, and business leaders throughout Palm Beach County. This also included a panel discussion which featured our Center Director, Dr. Samira Daroub, discussing sustainable agriculture and food security @CPBChamber @PBHChamber @FlaFarmBureau

The UF/IFAS Spray Rodeo Field Day was a great success with several high school students form Glades Day FFA @gladesdayschool and Glades Central FFA in attendance at @EvergladesREC. These students had the opportunity to get hands-on with spray equipment calibration and learn more about pest management. @UF_IFAS @NationalFFA

The UF/IFAS leadership @IFAS_VP @UF_IFASResearch had a great time visiting @EvergladesREC earlier this week. There was was much engagement with faculty, staff, students, and growers in the community. Dr. Robert A. Gilbert, Dean for Research and Executive Director for Academic Affairs, formerly served as a faculty member and center director during his time at EREC. @UF_IFAS
