@NotZainAgain @thedanielokon @SeanEcom Yes my cat’s name is Meow Meow. Oh weird - as in Pacagen paid right? We very frequently try to get advice from people but we always pay them! I think we always use mentorpass. Your biz dev guy might be putting you up on mentorpass then haha

@codyaims My brother did you get the city name wrong in a post where you’re talking about your experience in China?

@Nicole_Paulk To be quite fair, submitting a grant is like 20x more time intensive than pitching a VC. Probably spend 2 hours just uploading the grant to the website (because the websites are built by monkeys).

Has been one of my biggest complaints about the whole “AI is going to be so many drugs” pitch. The screening is certainly a part of the timeline but regulation and trials almost make the initial R&D costs seem less relevant.
AI antibody plays can and should be used to design better reagents for RRPA, Westerns, IHC, etc. Abcam is a $5 billion dollar company — certainly opportunity there if the advantage is speed and cost, not sure therapeutics is where you want to be

@1Chillwind @sebatlab Not PhD students from government grants! Sorry want to clarify that PhD students don’t actually take classes after their first year yet the schools charge the government tuition for them

@AllisonLopatkin One thing to really disentangle is how come the IP that comes from gov funding is completely owned by the universities? This way the pharma companies are hedging by letting the US people pay for upfront discovery. I think the conversations are gen good

@LorenaGrundy 1000% agreed of this is too drastic of a cut and too rushed. I’m super happy this is getting attention though because we have to have these conversations.

RT @JaneLankes: @EvanZhao6 Penn State took *59%* of my NSF grant. Always felt absolutely insane to me. I get that universities need to keep…

@R_H_Ebright Actually the reason is this money goes straight into the admin’s pockets! If curious, you can search any institute that’s a nonprofit here and be angry.

@R_H_Ebright THANK YOU for saying this! I felt like I was taking crazy pills! Great to see someone with a backbone. Now do grad student tuition caps.

One might argue the FDA is probably the most under-resourced and most important government agency. All of the complaints are actually solved with more workforce and diligence. If you think vaccines cause issues, boy I wish there was an agency that was well staffed for it.
GODDAMNIT FINE i am giving into temptation and wading into the political BS that is the (realizing?) threats to decimate the FDA is FDA perfect? no. are they doing CRUCIAL work and will cutting staff delay and potentially kill new medicines? YES brb
