NASA's Europa Clipper mission will find out if the conditions are right for life on Jupiter's icy moon Europa.
Joined January 2015
Our favorite backyard stargazing facts to bring up: .- You can see the largest moons of Jupiter (including Europa) with binoculars or a small telescope. - Europa is about the same size as Earth's Moon.
Tonight, bright Jupiter will appear close to the Moon. When you're looking at the Moon and Jupiter, you're actually looking at a LOT of moons. At last official count, Jupiter has 95, including Io, which our #JunoMission has studied, and Europa, the destination for @EuropaClipper

Good luck, Lucy!. We're preparing for our own gravity assist flybys during our journey to Jupiter. In March, the Europa Clipper spacecraft will be shooting past Mars, then Earth in 2026. Why? It's all about picking up speed! 1/2.
On approach! Right now, the #LucyMission spacecraft is about 264 thousand miles (about 425 thousand kilometers) from Earth and closing as it nears its gravity assist flyby. Closest approach will occur at 11:15 p.m. EST (04:15 GMT on Dec. 13). Follow along:

If you zoom in, the tiny "stars" lined up by bright Jupiter are some of its largest moons. In this shot, the one just below and to the left is Europa!.
Just look at that shine😎. On Dec. 7, Jupiter will be at its brightest for the year! Look to the east-northeast after sunset to see the planet rising. It'll be visible all night long. Use a telescope if you want to see details like Jupiter’s cloud bands.
