This is unbelievable.
If you don’t support your boss’s policies, resign.
If I was Biden, this would feel like a giant knife in the back.
1/3 One year ago today, US Navy LT Ridge Alkonis, had a medical emergency ending in a tragic car accident while driving his family to get ice cream. He was arrested, placed into solitary confinement, and deprived of sleep by being forced to sleep under bright lights for 26 days.
3/3 Ridge was falsely convicted and sentenced to 3-years in prison leaving behind a wife and 3 children. He’s one of the best guys I know and served an exemplary naval career. I hope

If revoking Alkonis’s promotion was actually about committing a “crime” and not about politics,
then why didn’t the Navy revoke the promotion 2.5 years ago when Alkonis was originally convicted??
Answer that.
Because—
The Navy knew Alkonis wasn’t actually culpable, that he
In the military's final summary report on the Ridge Alkonis case, the Navy stated:

The Navy started backing away from Lt. Alkonis’s promotion last year — not because of new information about Alkonis, but based on the fact that his case became “a matter of public discussion.”
Why does that make any sense?
On what planet is that a fair way to treat Alkonis?

If you are arrested in Japan, regardless of the crime, you will be detained for weeks & interrogated for hours each day with no access to legal counsel—usually until you confess to the alleged crime.
This is happening to our military members & their families stationed in Japan.

Pumped to see Ridge but not very excited about there being glass between us and guards looking over our shoulders during the entire visit.
The US-ROK Status of Forces Agreement was updated in recent years to ensure forces in Korea have access to legal counsel, a competent interpreter, & a USG rep at all times.
Why have we been able to make improvements to this SOFA but not in Japan?
