@e8chin I find the same thing when I ask about Alvin to kids in K-12, and even in my college classes. Have you seen this episode of Every Rock Has A Story? Its about Prof. Heather Olins riding Alvin to the bottom of the sea to study hydrothermal ecosystems.

@galacticrocks Indeed. We've been working on the key ore mineral eudialyte, mainly focusing on geochronology and its magmatic/metamorphic origins in these rocks. We extract REE from eudialyte in our lab all the time: in nanogram quantities! The trick is do it at scale.
