I had to WD from the Sr Open this morning. I woke up to a text from my Mom that my Dad has taken a turn for the worse. He may not be with us much longer but he’s lived an incredible life and influenced so many people in a positive way as a teacher, coach and friend.

Dad has moved on from this world as of this afternoon at around 2:00pm. He was an incredible husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother and uncle. We will miss him greatly!

Sad news: After my round today I received a text message from Chuck’s wife, Karen, that he passed away in his sleep at 2:30 this morning. He had been struggling with complications post surgery in Birmingham, AL about two months ago. These photos are from his last round on Tour.

Chuck was scheduled to retire a few weeks earlier but I convinced him to work two more tournaments that were held back to back in Branson, MO during the Covid year. Below is the walk off video after his last hole as a professional caddie. We had just finished with a birdie.

Yesterday, a HS kid came up to me after the round to tell me how inspired he was watching us play in the @SASChampionship last year. He carried the scoreboard sign for our group one day. He said he’s been practicing hard ever since and will try out for his HS team in the spring.

Last night in Abilene, our family was inducted into the Big Country Athletic Hall of Fame. We received the Pat Gerald Memorial Legacy Award. It was a great honor and a really nice banquet at the Abilene Convention Center.

I struggled quite a bit the last three weeks, so after the round yesterday my caddie and I discussed the significance of the passage of time and what I need to do to play better. There is such great significance to the passage of time to learn from my mistakes going forward.

Chuck was very loyal, trustworthy, consistent and positive in the 20+ years that he caddied for me. We had our moments(usually because of me) but he stayed with me through injuries and plenty of poor play. He loved being a part of the @PGATOUR and the @ChampionsTour.

We started round 2 for the day at 6:00pm on the Old Course. Waited on every hole and finished at 10:30. I made a 6 footer for birdie in the dark after hitting a 6 iron chip and run through the “Valley of Sin.”.

Chuck was very loved and respected on both Tours. He had been caddying on the @PGATOUR since the mid 80s. He was very friendly and always looking for someone to talk to, whether it was golf, sports, politics or just life in general. He seemed to enjoy every day of his work.

Finished T21 after a two under par round today. Played some really good golf the last 63 holes after a terrible start(+6) to the Championship. KJ Choi and Richard Green played some incredible golf on a very difficult course! I’m already looking forward to next year.
