This is pure and utter undermining this Council in prep for the next election. I guarantee they would start this ‘investigation’ before the election but it wouldn’t conclude until after. And you know what it would find? Nothing. We came in a challenging time - pandemic recovery.
City managers jumping ship, crisis after crisis, fears of financial insolvency.
All this has province looking at bombshell move, "auditing and stabilizing" the City of Edmonton.

Today I put forward a motion for Admin to explore, in collaboration with homeless service agencies and AHS, the possibility of providing drug checking programs. Drug checking is a confidential and safe way for people to have substances checked for potentially fatal contamination.

The only one that defunded the police has been the UCP - where we’ve had to fill gaps like my motion to address taser deficit. EPS had year-over-year increases. Here’s my blog with facts on police funding. And it went up again for 2023.

Housing-first. Shelters - especially mat programs - are not the answer. We need them in emergency situations they don’t address chronic homelessness and they lack dignity.
Alberta’s government has provided funding for over 1700 shelter spaces that has flowed from the province to shelter operators. There are currently over 1400 shelter spaces in Edmonton. Another couple hundred spaces will be opening early this year to reach 1700 spaces.

I often get asked how I balance mom life with council life. Today I made a cake and dinner for my son’s birthday in between reading budget documents, interviews, meetings and emails. It may not have been my best looking cake - but it made him smile 😊 ❤️.

I literally campaigned on this. I had approve the single-use bylaw in my platform. I had 4 pillars to my platform. One was environmental focus - where I highlighted waste reduction and this as a method for that.
Edmonton’s single use plastic bylaw did not spring up “out of the blue.” City council & admin had been talking about it since at least 2018
It wasn’t even requested by this city council — though they did pass it.
