BEAU IS AFRAID: I wish I could watch it again right now. Its an experience through anxiety, pain, regret, and all-out fear that is also a tribute to every scary (and funny) mother(!) movie you can think of. I want to experience and piece its nightmares together again soon.
BEAUTIFUL BOY: Hit me in ways I didn’t expect. Maybe the best film I’ve seen about the feeling of addiction since REQUIEM FOR A DREAM; albeit on the other side. Carell is solid. Chalamat incredible. More than once all I thought was: I miss you Dad.

Have an electrician over at the house. We are wearing masks. He enters wearing a mask. He lets us know he is vaccinated. We let him know we are vaccinated. We continue wearing the masks.
I thought the guy who said it’s ok to sleep with underage girls stated he was only doing an opening to the Trump’s defense. Why is the accused pedophile still talking?

A partial list of films that apparently won't be available virtually from

CHA CHA REAL SMOOTH: Movies like this are why I love festivals. Films with an unending supply of charm, heart and heartbreak that hit you just when you need it. Dakota Johnson is pretty perfect in this & Cooper Raiff has such a relatable likability. This really got me.
#Sundance
In response to the mass shooting close to where he is at, IL State Sen and Trump-endorsed candidate for Gov Dan Bailey releases a CAMPAIGN VIDEO: “Now let’s move on and celebrate the independence of this nation .. We have got to get corruption and evil out of our govt.”
Don't think of it as Gina Carano losing a TV show and a place in the Star Wars Universe. Think of it as her gaining a friend in Kristy Swanson and Kevin Sorbo.
Reminder to
@wbpictures
that the Chicago Film Critics Association awarded Best Picture, Best Director and three other awards to Mad Max: Fury Road in 2015. New York didn't even mention the film. Just sayin'
#Furiosa
FIRST MAN: I love that there is now a definitive cinematic trilogy about the space program with THE RIGHT STUFF, this and APOLLO 13. Chazelle finds multiple new angles thematically (and literally) to tell this story from a perspective of danger and grief. Wonderful!
#TIFF18
The Tribeca film festival just awarded a Special Jury Prize for director Ani Simon-Kennedy for THE SHORT HISTORY OF THE LONG ROAD and Best Cinematography in a Documentary Film to OUR TIME MACHINE.
Both films play the Chicago Critics Film Festival

Jane Porter is a horrible horrible horrible terrible and also horrible corrupted stew of ignorance and lapsed morals. Of course she is a spokesperson for the
#RoyMoore
campaign.
Michael Williams (R), Georgia State Senator just said on
#CNN
that it does not bother him if
#Trump
used the N-word before he became the President. (This should go viral.)
It would be nice to put Toni Collette in the same category with Sigourney Weaver for ALIENS, Kathy Bates for MISERY and Jodie Foster for THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. Just sayin'.
#Hereditary
35 years Nick Digilio was on in some form on WGN. Over 20 with his own show. I’ve been a part of it since nearly the beginning and that’s because he invited me to join in on the conversation. Movies, festivals. I will forever be grateful. He is my friend. I am angry tonight.
Closing night of the Chicago Critics Film Festival is going to be something.

and DAD himself,

HERETIC: I am kinda in awe about this one. A dark, deep dive into religion and spirituality wrapped in a horror film of true unpredictability with a villain performance by Hugh Grant for the ages that is deserving of serious award consideration. Loved it!

It'd be pretty funny if Spielberg and Scorsese get Zaslav on a conference call and while they have him busy DePalma sneaks up behind him with a power drill.
Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, and Paul Thomas Anderson have organized an emergency call to David Zaslav that will take place today to advocate for saving one of the greatest brands in cinephilia, TCM.
Nobody has loved a cat as much as
@scottEweinberg
loved his Jones. I've had calls with him where Jones was always present or Scott would bring him on to say hi. I am heartbroken for his loss today.
Thrilled to finally announce this but I have contributed my first Blu-ray commentary track for
@KinoLorber
's release of CAREER OPPORTUNITIES. It comes out on June 22 and I can't wait for you all to hear it.
The 10th Anniversary of the Chicago Critics Film Festival is in the books and I was incredibly moved by the number of people who came up to me and just said "Thank you for doing this." And there were a lot. I appreciate everyone who showed up to support these films and this fest.

Travis Kelce has 2 rings, is hanging with Taylor Swift and now less likely to die from COVID. Hard to think of anyone more unlikable in sports right now than this asshole below.

The story here is Trump’s extortion of a foreign government to go after a political opponent. Period.

THE LOST DAUGHTER
Alone on a seaside vacation, Leda (Olivia Colman) becomes consumed with a young mother and daughter as she watches them on the beach.
THE LIFE OF CHUCK: This incredibly beautiful Stephen King adaptation really hit me in a special place and I think it could do the same for those who hold STAND BY ME and THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION dear to them. Give it time. Just don’t wait.

THE FRIEND: I have a very soft shell when it comes to stories about cancer. But I like to think I also have a good B.S. detector. This one got a lot right and the three leads are all very good. Structually doesn't always work but the emotional beats ring true.

Who knew that Haitians' streaming service of choice was Vudu? But everyone should know that Clay Higgins, a sitting member of Congress, is an unholy piece of shit.

I am officially an Uncle for the third time. My sister, Jennifer, gave birth this past Monday at 9:12 pm to Jack Andrew. A true honor that her and my brother-in-law, Andy, decided to name him after my dad. He’s going to do him proud.
THUNDER ROAD: The kind of film I love discovering at festivals. Not sure what to expect and you get back a whole lot. Jim Cummings’ adaptation of his own short reminded me of the kind of confident leap Trey Edward Shults made with KRISHA. Solid work.
#SXSW
BREAKING: President Biden and Vice President Harris have secured the release of U.S. Marine, Paul Whelan, and Wall Street Journalist, Evan Gershkovich, from Russian captivity. This is huge.
A LITTLE PRAYER: Love when movies treat personal issues through characters like this rather than big plot swings. Jane Levy is fantastic here and the superlatives for David Strathairn just aren't enough. The climactic scene managed to wallop me a bit.
#Sundance2023
I just heard Eli Roth referrred to as "one of the most influential voices in horror" and I think its time for a serious reevaluation of how we say things out loud.
Its been 35 years since i saw WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT in a theater. Tonight seeing it at the

This moment in LIFE, ANIMATED got me so hard where Owen Suskind got to meet
@RealGilbert
after having learned as a boy to communicate through Disney films. The doc is wonderful. Gilbert Gottfried was wonderful. Enjoy the cry.
WILDLIFE: Best film I’ve seen at
#Sundance
so far this year. Delicately calibrated direction by Paul Dano and Carey Mulligan just owning it in every scene. Best work of her career.

The people crying tears over the loss of Blockbuster Video conveniently forget that they not only banned movies but were notorious for removing older titles that they felt people weren't interested in anymore. So let's not include them as evidence of the salad days.
