U.S. Figure Skating has a tragic history with air accidents. In 1961 Sabena flight 548 crashed en route from NY to Brussels - killing the entire U.S. Figure Skating team as they traveled to World FS Championship. This catastrophe opens a hole of grief that is simply unimaginable.

My former figure skating coach who was just in Wichita for training camp w these skaters, coaches and officials: “…Just horrible. Everyone was going home - juvenile, intermediate and novice level athletes w their coaches …so it's basically the up-&-coming athletes for the US.”
