6 years ago today, 19 year old Emma saw two lines on a pregnancy test. Scared of the unknown. I’m now mother to two, wife to be, soon to be a qualified nurse. She had nothing to be scared about ❤️

Yesterday, my worst nightmare came true. I came across a cardiac arrest, and was the only person able to give CRP until the arrest team arrived, no emergency bells, no squad of doctors and nurses within 10 seconds. Those minutes felt like hours.

I am absolutely disgusted that my future fellow colleagues have been removed from their nursing degrees for failing one assignment. We’ve lost some amazing future nurses today based on their academic ability and that doesn’t sit right with me

A patient under DOLS with delirium developed trust in me over football yesterday, enough so that he actually took his meds. So I’ve been and bought England flags today to decorate the bay ready for tomorrow. I can’t wait to see his face 🥹

I’m very aware, I’ve worked in the NHS for 10 years. Let’s not belittle the work that goes into “only 40%”. I’d rather the kind, caring and compassionate knowledgeable nurse caring for my family over the one with no bedside manner but can get 80% on a poster about obesity 🙄

I flipping passed my resubmission 😭😭😭 I’ve been an emotional wreck all afternoon but second year nearly broke me, with two young children, spinal surgery, family bereavement I can’t believe I’m going into third year 😭😭

Reminder for the students nurses who feel upset after seeing everyone post their results & progression. People tend not to post their failures - that doesn’t mean you’re the only one. There’s still time left to resubmit and your academic does not define you as a nurse

One of the most sentimental things happened to me today. A nurse I worked with last week took the time to send the ward manager a long email about our shift and fed back such beautiful positive feedback. I can’t tell you how much that meant to me 🥹🥹🥹

Resuscitation team, I approached her with concerns about someone who witnessed the arrest, and she literally dropped everything to go and chat to this lady, she was wonderful 🥰

My GP surgery has been incredible this week in their busiest time. I’ve rang twice about my daughter, and both times I’ve had a call back and a same day appointment. Don’t let the media fool you - they’re not all bad!

Today I spent the day at the mustard tree. I had no idea they offered counselling, financial advice, complementary therapies like massage and relaxation, wig appointments and more. And it’s all available for free to anyone with a cancer diagnosis!

Majorly overwhelmed lately. I’ve been unwell, my daughter is unwell, I haven’t slept in 3 nights. I’ve got 3 days off placement now, but a deadline on Friday, as well as catching up on house duties and being a mum. The third year exhaustion is real. Bring on Christmas

I think we forget we are dealing with the same pressures as the ward staff, but we also have assignments, and trying to learn things whilst on placement. It can be extremely overwhelming. Future nurse Emma will always priorities students mental health - it’s tough out here

I can’t express my thanks enough to the paeds theatre team at
@UHP_NHS
for the 5* care today after having emergency surgery on Emelia’s finger from crushing it. Walking in to find the nurses cuddling her post op was just 🥹 And the surgeon even drew a bunny on the bandage 🥹 👏🏼

As a parent to 2 under 2, finding out allocations FAR earlier than two weeks. And not having assignments running with placement, I have a 5 days a week placement, I need to work 1 day. I only have one day a week off and an assignment due soon! I’m very tired!

I think the issue is there are lots of tutors on annual leave so these guys are left without anyone to contact. What would have been good would have been the uni arranging a zoom with them all to support them with the “now what” steps

I was able to support a mother and her son who just lost their husband. Provided endless cups of tea and ensured they felt no pressure to end those precious farewells. End of life care will always be a passion ❤️

A gentle reminder that when posting photos of your children in their uniforms - cover their school badge. It’s our duty to protect our children, we post their birthdays, their names, by announcing their school we’re putting our children at greater risk 😢

Following that - the amount under the tree is irrelevant. Someone with 3 gifts under the tree could have spent loads on those three gifts alone. Someone with tonnes could have £1 gifts. You do you, don’t ever compare yourself against gifts you can even see what’s inside!

Hi Hannah. I’m not on placement, it was an NHSP shift. My colleagues are amazing and always have been my biggest cheerleaders. Thankfully it wasn’t my first arrest, but regardless I do think I need to debrief, it was quite traumatic x

£12.32. That’s what I can claim back for the month of fuel. After I got my car parking back, this was what was left. I do 5 days a week on placement, let me tell you that wouldn’t even cover my fuel for 4 days let lone the entire month.

I’m struggling to see why this is being turned into a negative. Staffing is extremely low and acuity is extremely high. Therefore protected mealtimes don’t happen, meds need giving, people need toileting and there isn’t enough of us. So allocating and alternating one member 1/2
