Thanks for all the follows! Thought I would reintroduce myself! I’m Emma, a teacher from Shropshire, UK. I write Victorian fiction, based on real notorious women. I am currently on sub with a variety of indie pubs, and start my MA in Contemporary Creative Writing in Sept!
Does anyone see my posts any more? I took a little break a few months back and have struggled to engage with anyone since coming back! Helllloooooo!? Anyone out there?
I got married on Tuesday in the town hall where the main character in my book was on trial for murder. Couldn’t resist standing where she would have been afterwards.
My 1st book got me an agent (and she’s fab), my 2nd book won’t see the light of day unless the 1st gets published but I wasn’t ready to leave the characters, my 3rd might get published one day. They’ve all got a mission, all teaching me something. I’m 42,000 into my 4th.🤞
Ethel was found down a drain in Bulgaria, Ginny came from a kill shelter in Romania. Six miles in walks today, evening snacks after their tea and sofa snuggles, and so much love ❤️🐕🦺🐕🦺
If someone had been murdered in your house and you didn’t know, and out of the blue, a strange woman professing to be a writer offered to tell you all about it if only you would give her a tour of your house because she’s writing about it and needs to see it, what would you say?
Today we celebrated a year since this babe arrived from Bulgaria. Ethel, 26 breeds identified in her DNA test, but she’s definitely 100% perfect. Also 100% party animal ❤️🐕🦺
You know that feeling…you wake up and think…This could be the day I get a YES from a publisher? Am I being overly optimistic? It could though, couldn’t it?!?!

Found down a drain in Bulgaria back in March, now watching TV on the sofa with her dad, resting her elbow on her little sister, belly full of food with extra chicken. Ethel ❤️🐕🦺
We did a DNA reveal party to raise money for the charity that saved my Ginny from a kill shelter in Romania. Funds sent off and one happy girlie who has had a wonderful afternoon with her family and friends ❤️
I’m in a band. Due to covid and us all being parents and in professional jobs that often eat into our evenings and it being the holiday season, we hardly ever get chance to practice. Gig on Saturday. Wish me luck 😂
It’s Ginny’s third birthday. She had a garden party with bunting, friends, paddling pool filled with balls, sprinkler, tent & tunnel, doggie icecream, peanut flavoured doggie bubbles and presents. Not bad for a girl who was in a Romanian kill shelter when I first saw her.
Once upon a time, someone made my life hell at work. Today I did a 10k and we were neck and neck for the last 3k and I panned her right at the end. Doesn’t make up for the stress she caused, but feeling triumphant none the less.
65000 words on my WIP and a quick visit yesterday evening to one of the locations to get my facts straight. Writing about something that’s local has been fabulous and helped me get to know the local town so well. This place has layers ❤️
I don’t just write historical fiction, I’m a history buff…metal detecting on my permission today, I found a horse shoe which is fitting because it’s where a racecourse once was, and a Queen Victoria half penny, and my partner found a Reynolds Waxworks admission token.
When you have a rejection from a publisher who says it’s not right for their market, but if they were in their old job, they’d have snapped it up… argh.

My dog is poorly and had to be sedated for x rays. Nothing broken, the vet is treating it as an infection. Please send dog photos to help me relax because today has been horrible.
I’ve done so much research for my WIP it would be a shame for it to just disappear so I’m going to scrapbook it! Newspaper articles, old photos, court proceedings, census records, a scrapbook of it all…
I’ve been obsessed with Gaston Leroux’s The Phantom of the Opera since I was a child, visiting locations in the book many times. On Saturday, my boyf popped the q at l’eglise de la Madeleine in Paris, where Erik wanted to marry Christine. Then Carmen at Opera Bastille. Smooth. 💍
I never have an advent calendar. Never. This year, I bought one. It’s got figures in it instead of chocolate. I’m 43. Can’t wait til Dec 1st now!!

180 pages edited on my WIP so far, not so many done today because I spent a few lovely hours cycling round the Ironbridge Gorge, and drinking wine and eating food with my mum.
The start of a new week! What are you reading? What are you writing? What’s your goal for the week? I’m dusting off another WIP to see what can be done with it!

As a teacher myself, I can honestly say that person should never have been allowed into the profession. This is awesome. Congratulations 👏
About to hit my word target for the year so far, trying to average 1000 words a day, nearly there… This new book is a bit different to what I’m used to writing, but I’m really enjoying it!
I’ve been researching a local woman who has been dead for over 100 years. Jokingly, I’ve said “What if I’m waking up her ghost?” I don’t believe in that sort of thing…but tonight, as I went out into the pitch black garden with my dogs I swear a voice whispered in my ear: “Boo!”
After my last WIP I wondered how I could ever obsess over a forgotten historical person ever again, because let’s face it, I was obsessed. Turns out…easily!! Off on a local self-guided tour of the life of the next notorious forgotten female I’ve discovered for my next WIP!
