Are we really living in a country that is seriously considering old oil platforms and ferries in the middle of the sea to house asylum seekers? The unworthiness and hierarchy of human life is clearly increasing - how very very sad
This is really knobby I know but I am so proud - education wasn’t my friend until later in life. It’s never too late

TY ❤️
I have just had confirmation I have had my corrections accepted. PhD awarded - I am so so happy - the Dr title is no longer 'ever so slightly not quite there yet'. Me is a happy bunny! Thanks so much
@caitbeaumont

@silvesmarisa
My message from today’s focus group. Police don’t hate change they just want information about why it’s happening / what it will achieve / what it means to them / their role in it and to be listened to about how it might impact on them..... good comms really!
Today I say goodbye to this great man. He is proof to me that blood isn’t thicker than water. What a legend and role model he was. RIP dad 2 I will miss you everyday 💕
I am so so pleased to announce that I have been appointed as Academic Director
@OU_police_res
Centre for Police Research and Learning. I will be working closely with the marvellous
@Jen_Norm
to further the already fantastic work of our colleagues
@OUPolicing
I am so excited about my new role which I can now tell you about - I have followed CPRL developments over the years& their grt work with police practitioners & the academic community to make a difference. January here we come!
@OU_police_res
thankyou so much for this opportunity!
CPRL is very pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Emma Williams (
@EmWilliamsCCCU
) to the post of Director of Research and Strategic Partnerships, starting in January 2021. Watch this space!
So excited to have received an offer from
@policypress
to turn my PhD into a book for their police series. Huge thanks to the team there - very excited and better get writing!!! ✍️
Absolute highlight of my career today. Speaking about such an amazing woman / role model for policing in such a setting.
@NCA_LynneOwens
well well done. You are an inspiration to us all 🎓
Can someone please also mention the linked issues to burnout welfare and organisational health … the police have been failed and responsibility is never taken.
So new beginnings for me. I will be leaving Canterbury Christ Church University and its' fab team in November.. end of a very lovely era but very excited about what the future might bring for me.. guess I will have to create a new Twitter handle :0)
I met Liv at
@CCCUPolRes
conference having known her for a while ‘virtually’. She became an active&welcome part of our community. We laughed with her&cried. She taught me so much about her personal experiences&strength. This year the conference is dedicated to Liv Pontin
#RIP
❤️
I can’t believe this has happened.
@Liv1204
was part of our policing family
@CCCUPolRes
- I am absolutely devastated by this news. Liv was one of the most kind and humble people I have ever met. Dreadful news and sending love to anyone that knew her and will miss her ❤️❤️
"Nothing is more exasperating than watching well-intentioned policies fall short because they were based on ideology, gut judgment, or something else besides sound evidence." John List and
@ECzibor
on why evidence doesn't always drive policy:
The report stresses that officers are struggling to cope with workload and emotional trauma and needed support. A bespoke survey found burnout to be higher than among NHS staff during the first year of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The more I think about the ‘need for personal resilience narrative’ the more it makes be angry. When will organisations consider their responsibility in providing organisational resilience for their workforce 😬
This man
#bro
has caused me so much angst as some of you know. He is now 8 weeks clean, setting up a business, keeping fit and really adamant to change
#pleasemakeit
❤️
I have an issue with her narrative. NOT just about police-if it doesn’t happen the ideology of austerity will be justified in a narrative of police failure despite ‘we gave you more resources’. These issues cannot just be solved by police numbers and unethical target setting 😤
Priti Patel has ordered the police to cut the number of murders, serious violence and neighbourhood crime within three years in return for the 20,000 extra officers they will receive
Huge congratulations to my friend and colleague
@SteveTongCCCU
who is now Professor Tong
@CanterburyCCUni
..... well deserved after his important contribution to policing education and research over many years. Well done buddy!! Well proud if you 😀😀😀😀😀
The M25 is a bloody death trap - at what point will we acknowledge that a potential 40% cut to roads policing is impacting on lives and families. Denying the impact of cuts to EVERY area of policing cannot be sustained. Robbing Peter to pay Paul just ain't working..
I am absolutely thrilled to be joining
@AngliaRuskin
as the Professor/Director of the new Centre in Equalities in Uniformed Public Services in Sept. The chance to work to improve current challenges is an absolute privilege
@lundrigsam
@IPPPRIatARU
@ARU_VFi
I am absolutely over over over the moon to announce that
@NCA_LynneOwens
nomination for an honorary doctorate was successful
@CCCUPolRes
CCCU and she has ACCEPTED ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ we are utterly over the moon. Well Well deserved Lynne!

support & reducing stigma
I am so proud to now be leading this centre after the job
@SteveTongCCCU
has done in establishing and developing it. I am proud to be at this superb institution
@CanterburyCCUni
and pleased as punch for my friend Steve - go
@CCCUPolRes
Congratulations to Emma Williams + Steve Tong.
@EmWilliamsCCCU
is now the CCPR Director and
@SteveTongCCCU
is School Director for Research. This marks an exciting development for the Centre and the School with exciting projects and collaboration in progress. Well done to both.
We have a curriculum - an apprenticeship. I see here officers struggling,not getting the right input/support +a lack of accountability. Teaching police is specialist,needs to involve practical application and blended learning+time for study. Let’s not set great people up 2 fail!
Can anyone help? Officers required for a MSc study ‘Do Police Officers Receive Sufficient Training in Mental Health?’.... Participants will receive a summary report and/or copy of the dissertation if they would like. Pls DM me if you can help!
At a loss really about what to say. A total, embarrassing mess. No plan, no strategy, decisions made too late and the country’s mental health and livelihood at stake.
Excited to be part of a team working with the
@CollegeofPolice
to develop a systematic map on primary prevention in a public health and policing context! Such an important subject!
Sometimes a huge decision at a strange time can be a bit scary. I am so so excited about all the new opportunities I am getting involved in over the next few months with various universities and police orgs. Change is good! Thanks to all that helped me discuss my options ❤️
I wondered if we needed to make another doc after our last one. But there were so many more questions that needed answering. We talk brain fog , testosterone, what to do if u can’t take hrt & more. My documentary Sex, Mind and the Menopause is Mon 9pm
@channel4
#DavinaMenopause
I do my job cos I believe in policing&criminal justice. I genuinely want to make a difference through research/learning. No getting 4* REF pieces isn't my priority-I don't apologise for that. Research is for progress&thinking not 4 sitting on a shelf. Ref a weird convo today!
Dear Twitter - it has been a rough week - I hope you can all have a nice weekend. Be kind to yourselves and others. You never ever know what is really going on in someones head 💙💙
Just heard my mate who is in
#Salisbury
cannot yet come home. CBRN Officer. Away from his family for 8 days. No return date given. Tests constant. Thanks for all you do 👮🏻♀️💙
Wish this man the very very best life after policing. Corny but you and
@ConstableChaos
were two of my first Twitter contacts and I remember how excited I was when I got a follow! Great cop and person. Good luck and happy days sir
@SgtTCS
Excellent interview today with an officer. He just summed up a lot that is wrong with current organisational learning processes and offered realistic solutions. Asking practitioners? Who would have guessed it 😀
On Sunday my brother turns 50. He has been free of drugs and alcohol for nearly 5 years now and is training to be a counsellor. Proud does not cover it x
@The_Provy
Thankyou 🩵🩶🤍
I am really feeling this lockdown now. Feels different from the last one. I really miss my mum more than anything ..... really recognising the importance of my friends at the moment. Walks and a chat 💬 is a highly recommended option (sometimes with a can of G and T 😋😆)
Quote of the day for me from a DI - ‘if it isn’t flavour of the day then there is no specialist squad’ - highlights the speed of changing priorities for officers across ranks and roles. How does this impact on a sense of job value and personal well-being / sense of competence?
The more I hear ‘austerity is over’ the more it makes me mad! The legacy of austerity won’t be ‘over’ forever for some and the policies instigated to make it happen continue to destroy many more. ‘Over’ it isn’t.
Who fancies
@wecops
webinars from December. More live debate from those involved in ‘a’ area of policing to share good practice and innovations. All those in favour let me know 😀😀😀
#stillinthegame
😆
Why are we suggesting the police can singularly tackle and be responsible for the rise in violent crime. The structural inequalities in this country worsen every day - the ignorance of home policy over Brexit is unforgivable and other services are cut to shreds...come on please!
All the work on vulnerability, public health and law enforcement, violence reduction units, rape investigation, early intervention, procedural justice.... just no
Missed this yesterday - excellent - 'Policing is a non-negotiable responsibility of the state; without it, there’s no rule of law. It’s extraordinary we’re seeing an increase in private policing and vigilantism under a Conservative government'
I am not sure I can watch / hear or cope with any more of this election crap. You watch the ‘performances’ from
@BorisJohnson
in disbelief that anyone would actually vote for him and his party. And yet they will. It is just depressing
#MarrShow
#TheMet
a queue of people waiting for a custody slot...... the reality of policing today and it’s wider implications on police presence - everyone should watch it
Making transient a police career will damage policing ... I agree with recognising skills but the current model needs review. We will see divisions in the police environment
#poledcccu
One thing I am looking forward to when I submit this bloody thesis. Reading a book that isn’t about rape, police culture, organisational theory or change. The Beano comic would do 🤣😆🤣
Listening to tributes from the Croydon community about St Matt Ratana is heartbreaking. What a compassionate and genuine human he sounds. A truly tragic situation. It sounds like policing has lost an officer who really wanted to make a difference to the local people he served 💙
Not sure about academic outcomes of lockdown in this house but I know the little man is going to be getting an A* in his call of duty GCSE....
#FTworkathomewithteens
Interesting comment on the ability of police to take research and implement it. Hence why - Researchers/academics need to engage with practitioners throughout entire research process to ensure operational understanding and future impact to change practice
