Upshot: This is an egregious case. A clear history of misconduct, multiple investigations and women speaking out. Still, I'm facing trial--$108m suit for reporting. Legislators must reform anti-SLAPP laws to protect free speech and critical public discourse in VA @RepDonBeyer

What does it look like to try to report #sexualharassment in 2024?👇👇👇 Abusers lie. Powerful entities protect them. You have to fight for years to protect others and end 10+ years of abuse. You get sued for millions for trying to enforce your rights and protect others. #metoo

GMU hired multiple outside investigators; and those investigators spoke with several brave women, including @adiveland and @BrandyWags , who reported their experiences. /7

And if you experienced any of this -- know, truly, that you did nothing wrong. You have nothing whatsoever to be ashamed of. Internalizing these feelings is part of what abusers rely on. Recognizing that is so powerful. #metoo #metoolaw

@ChristaLaser 💯 something (or several things) are very broken in our legal system for abusers to have so many rights and protections, while survivors have no accessible way to protect themselves or others

Singling someone out for multiple (and apparently one new) award while having a relationship with them calls into question *his* power and how it was being used. And why GMU just changed policies.

@ChristaLaser I can't begin to describe how deeply painful it is when people with powerful voices continue to support those who have systematically engaged in predatory behavior. A recent WSJ article explains why that support just perpetuates abuse

I’m very upset by this story. Josh has been a friend to me and many others but that does not excuse this long-standing pattern of terrible behavior. Consent loses meaning when one party wields power over the other. I support these women.

@ChristaLaser @RonanFarrow Thank you so much for saying that. My goal from the beginning has been to make sure that others are better protected -- and to put a stop to this abhorrent conduct.

After exhaustive investigations into potential Title IX and HR violations, @GeorgeMasonU explained Wright resigned rather than face termination proceedings. And thanked me and @adiveland bc we "courageously came forward" and "helped to inform and implement several new policies"

Whose voices you choose to amplify -- and to continue amplifying -- matters. A lot. As a powerful, leading institution, you're sending signals about what behavior you seem acceptable. #metoo #metoolaw

@timkaine @MarkWarner @DonBeyerVA Josh Wright resigned from @GeorgeMasonU before the Title IX process finished, to evade any potential of findings against him. The school apparently had cause-from a separate HR investigation corroborating my concerns-to terminate. Still, his retaliatory defamation suit continues.

@ChristaLaser @adiveland 💯 and disgusted when they learned the truth and read his absolutely unhinged complaint. shocking that he thought it was acceptable -- morally, ethically, professionally -- to be acting as legal counsel to these companies and asking them for $ without disclosing the relationship.

@timkaine @MarkWarner @DonBeyerVA @GeorgeMasonU In a system where all these facts can be on your side (+ multiple women confirm the misconduct)--yet the legal system can *still* be weaponized against you, there simply is no way to report. Survivors are silenced. Predators remain. Our universities and future gens deserve more.
