The Derbyshire Wassailing and a St Brigid Feast.

There are fortunes to be told in the embers of St Brigid's fire.

Today I brought a gift of water from the holy well of St Alkmund in Derby to give to the Abbots well. We also said prayers to St Werburgh whose day it is tomorrow.

Dr Ed keeps his Christmas tree up until Candlemas so we sat around telling ghost stories and talking about saints until it was time to go home.

And the boy offered a burning branch back to the apple tree. We sang and clattered pots and pans and had a merry time.

Today was a gorgeous day. We took round gifts to our friend's for a Wassailing, Candlemas, St Brigid and St Werburgh combined feast. I started by bringing a gift of a st Brigid cross that I made from the rushes that grow in my garden.

I am continuing my little project documenting bits of Derby. Today, a door in George Yard which @BooksnMagic thinks looks like something from a Call of Cthulhu scenario. Should we go in?
