From 14 to 16 November, 2022, I had the opportunity of visiting troops and personnel of the SADC Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM) & I saw first hand the unyielding commitment of the troops in pursuit of lasting peace & security on behalf of over 350 million SADC citizens

I received with deep sorrow, the sad news of the passing of H.E Dr Hage Geingob, President of the Republic of Namibia this morning. On behalf of the SADC Secretariat, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Government, bereaved family & people of Namibia on this great loss.

On 28 October, 2021, I had a fruitful meeting with the leadership of the Regional Coordination Mechanism for #SADC Mission in Mozambique #SAMIM. We agreed on actions that will chart a path for sustainable peace & security in #CaboDelgado @BWGovernment @clubOmozambique

Today I had the honour of paying a courtesy call on H.E President @FNyusi of Mozambique. I commended the President for support rendered to the #SADC Mission. We committed to work with partners to combat acts of terrorism & violence extremism so that people return to normal life.

Peace and security are the foundational cornerstones to achieve SADC’s socio-economic development, poverty eradication and regional integration, in pursuit of the SADC Vision 2050. Without peace and security, development in the region will remain a challenge.

I was honoured to join eminent persons including Former President Chissano, AfDB President @akin_adesina, IMF MD @KGeorgieva and Zimbabwe Finance Minister Hon. Prof. Mthuli in the Round Table on Zimbabwe’s arrears clearance and debt resolution process.

Met with @JosepBorrellF the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy to exchange on issues of mutual interest, with a view to strengthen & deepen cooperation towards the implementation of the regional integration agenda @PetraPereyra

Yesterday 24 August people of the Republic of #Angola exercised their right to vote in the General Elections. Honoured to accompany the Head of SADC Electoral Observation Mission, Hon. Frans Kapofi, Minister of Defence of Namibia, as we observed several polling stations in Luanda

Today I was honored to receive Members of the Parliamentary Committee on Regional Integration from the Parliament of #Kenya, led by Hon. Julius K. Rutto, MP. We exchanged ideas on how we can accelerate integration for Africa’s prosperity.

Just concluded a very productive meeting with World Bank Vice President for Eastern & Southern Africa, @VictoriaKwakwa. We thank the Bank for the current US$20 million project portfolio in SADC & look forward to collaborating with the Bank on energy & other development priorities

I was honoured to have an engaging, fruitful discussion with Hon. Sylvestre Radegonde, Minister for Foreign Affairs & Tourism of #Seychelles on how we can collectively deepen #SADC regional integration by utilising Seychelles’ experiences in governance, tourism & fisheries

A very fruitful Quarterly Meeting between SADC and EU Delegation to Botswana led by H.E. Amb. @PetraPereyra. We continue to make progress in our shared commitment to foster peace, security & sustainable development in the region.

Zimbabwe has all it takes to be successful and take its place as the economic powerhouse of the #SADC region but arrears, debt and sanctions have become an impediment to the socio-economic growth of Zimbabwe for over 20 years now. Zimbabwe needs our support.

Today, I attended the launch of the Kazungula Border Town Water Supply & Basic Sanitation Project, delivered by SADC Water Fund & administered by @DBSA_Bank with funding from Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation & Development & KfW, co-funded by Govt of Zambia.

On the margins of the #SpringMeetings2024 in Washington DC, I had the honour of meeting Ms. Birgit Pickel, DG of Africa Directorate, Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation & Development. I extended SADC’s appreciation to Germany for the long standing development partnership.

Just concluded a very fruitful meeting at the US Department of State. We discussed how SADC and USA can strengthen cooperation to tackle contemporary challenges of armed conflict, climate change & food insecurity while driving forward industrialisation, trade and economic growth

What an insightful discussion with Steve Killelea, Founder of the Institute for Economics and Peace, a Think Tank that is working to influence global narratives on the nexus between peace and development.

Today I was honoured to take part at the commemoration of the Commonwealth Africa Anti-Corruption Centre (CAACC) 10+1 Anniversary under the theme “Strengthening Partnership Opportunities for the next 10 years”.

As part of my engagements in #Madagascar, today I visited the National Office of Risk and Disaster Management @BngrcMada. It is really a model of how #SADC Member States can prepare & respond to disasters, particularly how it helped to reduce the impact of #CycloneFreddy

Once completed, Kazungula Border Town Water Supply & Basic Sanitation Project will impact lives of over 13,000 people in the short term & reach about 21,000 people by 2030, including transit population through the Kazungula Bridge & One-Stop Border Post, Bren Zambia & Botswana
