To me a centrist is someone who is willing to compromise, likely because they see sense on each both sides. Or people who mix policy positions in an uncommon manner - say someone who wants higher taxes but less regulation.
Centrists may be the most consistently straw-manned group online. Nobody seems to know what centrism means or what people who identify that way believe.
The mere existence of someone who isn’t on either extreme is profoundly offensive to some people.
