@Met4CastUK Timing of the surface reaction of the wave reflection is important. Appears to happen midweek and then the typical reaction is a 1-6 day response. So what end of the scale will we get and that depends on the strength of reflection as well just to add more confusion pain.

This will surely be in legendary ECM runs. There's indeed a small chance we do get this cold, but only if the high remains strong and blocks out the Atlantic for just long enough for all the cold to come rushing in. The cold pool does need time to properly develop but it should.

The surface reaction time of the stratospheric wave reflection is important. It happens around the 13th and is currently modelled for typical 4-7 day response time at the surface. That leaves just enough time for the high to block Atlantic and for cold filtering in.
