My sister Vivienne died last night aged 92. Has been my privilege to share 90 of those years with her. Real good mate. Was with her when she graduated as a nurse 70 years ago. Watched with pride as she served splendidly as compassionate aged care nurse. They don't come better.

Today I gave eulogy at funeral of my sister Vivienne. In preparing my words I came across this photo of us taken 87 years ago when the Great Economic Depression was at its peak & WorldWar2 was looming. Our parents told us there always is hope and there was. We give thanks.

Been to 3 funerals this week. All old friends. At my age of 90 lots of friends fall off perch with increasing regularity. I give thanks for their contribution to my life & to society. Every morning I am grateful for another day in which I can do my bit & try to kick another goal.

Gave eulogy today at funeral of old mate who died at 91. We played in same cricket team 65 years ago & chased same girls. He was old time bank manager who looked after his customers. In his retirement he became a beekeeper who kept me supplied with superb honey. Real good bloke.

I lived through Great Depression of 1930's when one out of every three was unemployed. We fought our way out of that only to be hit by WorldWar2 in 1939 when food & clothing were rationed & we faced huge threat of Japanese invasion. We survived & prospered. Lets do it again.
