has measured our current trajectory to be right on target👌
Time for us to answer the big question: why has no one ever attempted a lunar-Earth flyby before?👉
Claire Vallat was planning the mission science at the time of Rosetta's arrival, and now does the same for

On 19 and 20 August,
@ESA_JUICE
will fly by Earth and Moon in a unique braking manoeuvre. Earth will 'bend' Juice’s trajectory through space, braking and redirecting it on course for a flyby of Venus in August 2025.

are successfully keeping us right on track for a perfect lunar-Earth flyby.
We'll give you a wave as we go past! 👋

came out of it perfectly positioned for flyby!
To send

straight to Jupiter would have required an impossible amount of propellant.
So instead, Juice is taking the scenic route, using the gravity of the Moon, Earth and Venus to adjust its course.
The first flyby is due on 19–20 August👇
