Over the past month, the Taliban has announced new laws aimed at erasing women from society in Afghanistan, including a ban on the construction of windows that overlook areas used by women. This is gender apartheid. #EndGenderApartheid

Narges Mohammadi, a prominent Iranian human rights activist and 2023 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, has been granted a 21-day medical release from the notorious Evin Prison following surgery for a suspected cancerous lesion in her leg. Currently serving multiple sentences totaling more than 30 years for her activism, she has repeatedly been denied proper medical care. This release falls short of the three months requested by her family and lawyers for adequate recovery. Despite continuous reprisals from authorities, Mohammadi has continued her advocacy from inside prison and has called for gender apartheid to be recognized as a crime against humanity. In photos after her release, she is seen holding a photo of Mahsa Jina Amini, a 22-year-old who was killed in the custody of the Iranian regime’s morality police, and writing “no to gender apartheid” on her palm. #EndGenderApartheid
