One of the worst things you can do when a public figure you champion has said or done something egregious.. “What he/she meant was..” There is no honor in trying to cover for negative actions and behaviors. Admit the wrongdoing and move forward with your self-respect.

Morality is just a bad joke within a culture that always defaults to self-interest and self-preservation. Too many public figures are seen as deities. You cannot make ethical dissections when you consider an individual as infallible.

Some of us may have to come to terms that we may not ever be able to internally reach that family member, friend, co-worker, etc. who has been consumed with hateful and dogmatic ideology. Guide your spirit and pray for them from a distance. It isn’t your fight.

Starting at this reality helps us to be aware of how many people who are internally struggling and thus seeking out harmful vices to quell inadequacies and personal grievances.

There is no genuine concern for what happened or who is affected - there is only opportunism for political empowerment and posturing.

It is always a beneficial life choice to sustain virtue under discipline than to lose integrity in the effort to satisfy self-interest.

Additionally, as parents and as coaches who are in co-leadership positions you must also confront a reality that you lack emotional intelligence - which is then reflected in the athlete. It may not be the root cause, but there is a probability that it may be part of the problem.
