Right but you realize how unwelcoming Europe, with it's concentration camps, would be to Jews right after WW2, right? That memory would be really fresh in 1948 for survivors. My grandfather was at one a couple of days after it was liberated and if all of the war stories he told, he barely would speak about what he saw there. Now imagine if you were a Jew, how badly you would want to avoid that area. The region of what is Israel and "Palestine" has seen conflicts by whoever inhabited it for millennia... it's not new.

There are far friendlier places for them to exert power and avoid taxes than America. Places that a free press doesn't exist and the government is more agreeable. "The rich", whatever that definition is, have enough money to reside & do business where they want. The Laffer Curve is the best way to maximize tax intake from the government & simple analysis of who pays what show "the poor" either don't pay income taxes or flat out get paid for not making enough. It's the wealthy that pay. What I am saying is this simplistic idea that the rich will go to all the trouble to avoid paying taxes is silly...if all they want is fewer taxes, they already do that. Elon already pays a lot in taxes, he might have a altruistic motive instead...he might care about the rest of us enough to fight waste and fraud. That seems more likely...I could be mistaken but he already has immense wealth and is a king of sorts in his sphere, so maybe he's trying to help the rest of us. Time will tell.
