gousotsu is an amazing story in an okay anime, and takes satoko from one of the best characters in higurashi to one of the best in all of wtc
saikoroshi and phase 1 are tied for best arc

omg I think about this scene all the time, it's one of my fav mini mysteries in higurashi that has no explicit answer but lots of cool options, I have basically 3 blue truths for it. The one I believe least is that the two guys weren't actually mountain dogs but sonozakis- (1/12)

??? The next bit is snowy mountain syndrome, which starts right on the christmas party from the end of dissapearance doesnt it? I know theres the one short story about the guy who likes yuki that's technically inbetween them but I highly doubt they'd start a season with that

This is the 2020 sequel series, which def has presentation & pacing problems but is mostly worth it for the new story (although it stumbles at times)
The '06 og is not really worth it, it compresses the story & screws up the themes/tone way too much (tbf kai/s2 is a bit better)

a badass moment for her it pays off her talk about "not letting anything happen" to k1 and making up for failing satoshi. It's also the most logical of the three possibilities, as rena is right behind keiichi and he doesn't seem to get too far before running into the guys. (8/12)

The third one is the one u talk about, where rena shows up, either beats up the yamainu till they run away or just straight up kills them, and then either princess carries k1 all the way home (lol) or he woke up and she wasn't lying about just that part. Asides from being- (7/12)

The ending becomes much sadder with this in mind aswell, because now rena thinks that he's aware she saved his life & is no longer distrustful, that everything is finally gonna go back 2 normal, but then he forgets & kills her & mion anyway. There's also an extra sense of- (9/12)

Imo ep 14 - 15 is a very drastic and immediate shift in quality, its noticeably the moment they go from speeding through stuff from the 2003 anime to doing new material.
You're prob too far in now to just switch to '03 but I highly recommend watching it afterwards

a bat, and afterwords when the narration resumes he has no memory of what just happened. (theoretically this is compatible with the 1st theory & even adds to it with keiichi's life not being actually threatened both times, but I prefer it with the mountain dogs personally) (6/12)

-that mion had looking for keiichi and rena like in tsumihoroboshi. There are a couple bits during their "chase" where the narration seems to imply that lots of time has passed without keiichi realizing, so it's possible that she may have thought they went missing- (2/12)

Imo the downgrade sucks but the most aggravating part of this scene is that it missed the chance to do a seamless transition from satoko raising the gun to takano shooting, and that it still doesn't include rika catching the bullet in stopped time

it's insane cause EUA seems to be like the goats in umi, a pretty obvious critique of people who don't care about characters and just want to see gore, but the studio focuses so much on that exact thing to the detriment of satoko that i'm not sure if it was intentional or not

Man if they would just show character's inner monologues (esp for satoko/mion) then it would make the show so much better.
I really like parts of gou and want to like more of it but so often it just takes good ideas and wastes them with poor execution/doesn't elaborate at all

that part of her character was one of the main things that got me invested in the show at first, i love how much of the plot is motivated by the calamity trio's personal flaws and hangups.
seeing how everyone reacts to anne's growth in later seasons was super satisfying

2/2 we're actually at the end of the satoko's story, not the middle of rika's. It's also a great parallel to beatrice asking battler about his sin in alliance, she begs rika to confess but rika just talks about leaving hinamizawa cuz she doesn't get how what she did hurt satoko

just hit ep 16 in my rewatch and man it really is one of the best bits in the whole show, the last two episodes have finally started to give you a bit of context after 13 eps of confusion then all of a sudden you're thrust into a heartbreaking confession and you realize that 1/2

I agree on almost everything, but I'd flip watadamashi and akashi, the first one at least did some vn scenes slightly better than DEEN and had a good last episode. The latter just pissed me off the whole way through. I'd also bump down oniakashi to below tataridamashi
